I want to, but I haven't got round to it just yet for a very simple reason.....pedals!
There is absolutely no point if you don't have progressive pedals, or at the very least a conical brake modification. If you even tap somebody's back end around in iRacing, you will be scorned big time by the community if it appears you were driving like Pasta Maldonado...
They scrutinise accident replays and apportion blame!
And to even have a chance you need to know the tracks by heart; every single turn and every single braking point. You don't get any of the nonsense moves that you do in other racing games, even with the AI.
This is a replay of me driving the shorter sprint version at
Watkins Glen on Project Cars. Watch the AI dive down the inside at the last moment and just tap my back end. I desperately tried to hold from spinning, but it pushed me wide onto the kerb and inevitably it was all over. That is [almost] a flat out corner and the chances of making a move like that stick without contact are extremely low. You would be immediately lambasted and possibly disqualified for driving like that in an iRacing match. They have opponent position warnings on iRacing for a reason so there is no excuse for moving across drivers. You can edge over and see if they yield, but if not, and if you don't back off, there's no disputing you were to blame.
And it's all too easy to do that accidentally, without a progressive brake pedal. Other racers would be hitting us up the [censored] every corner and we'd be properly found out! Darren Ganges from Inside Sim Racing, has lots of videos explaining the expected etiquette.
I can make a conical brake mod for my T300RS for less than a fiver, but I'm tempted to pick up a better set of T3PA's instead. But yeah, once the brake pedal is sorted I'd be well up for iRacing. Just need to get the hours in and learn the braking points properly!
Out of interest, watch the AI drivers running all over the back of each other in my replay, all acting like teenagers at an arcade. You can see from your Dutch dudes race, the iRacing standard of drivers is a million miles ahead in comparison.
P.S. Ignore the second spin. That was deliberate for replay purposes!
