Battlefield 1

[link to this post]

changed and bought it on my new Xbox S console and i expect this game tomorrow wink Single player is about 6 hours only but getting some outstanding review scores, and we all know Battlefield isn't about single player wink.

Set my new TV and i have to say after a few HDR Concerns [sorted by me matey Jorkila] I'm really really truly deeply, madly impressed with this set, screen size is going to take some getting used to as it like sitting in a small cinema, but what a picture ,literally jaw dropping, blows away my Sony KX system in terms of clarity and definition.

Didn't realise i had to change a few settings on the TV to get all the xbox s HDR thing working, factory set all the HDR HDMI ports were switched of.......Don't ask my why when this is the big draw attraction to these UHD sets from Samsung.

They should get life bans but i don't know really how to stop idiots doing this and what the answer is, obviously he has a fair knowledge and expertise on how do do this, so he has some technical knowledge not used in the correct manner.

They will just create other accounts and carry on as normal.

multiplayer gaming is not for me.

I will give a quick rundown why I am not into multiplayer gaming.

Single player

Play at own pace without stress
Dont need to worry about things like hacking and cheating.
Single player games tend to give a more rich experience as multiplayer revolves around doing the same thing again and again.
Can play at time you want instead of arranging time with friends.

Multiplayer

Tends to be of competitive nature, rather than relaxed chilling out gameplay.
Have to deal with cheaters (on pc).
Games tend to die out quickly when people get bored so may also have to keep buying new games to find someone to play with.
Need to pay for online subscription (on consoles)
If matchmaking code is bad you can end up just constantly losing which isnt fun. Which leads to the last point.
Generally higher levels of skill are required to win at multiplayer games vs AI.

BF games do have quite good single player tho, much better than COD.

Would disagree with the last paragraph as Battlefield having better single player Campaign than Cod,its normally the other way around as Battlefield has never been known for intense addictive single player Campaign but for its multiplayer.

I also don't agree with your views on Multiplayer apart from Hackers that obviously ruin the experience, once you have a addictive online game such as Gears 4 with a few mates especially on Horde Mode and games such as the original MW they are truly exciting and fun to play without the issues you take about, for it to be like you like then the games would seriously have to have a price cut just for a single player experience, most games of today focus on multiplayer and thats a fact.

Yeah we wont agree, we different type of gamers smile

I was just trying to explain why I am not into it as much as you guys.

Most games released across all platforms are actually single player focused, but they not the big budget highly marketed games that draw your attention. It just so happens that even tho multiplayer games are outnumbered by single player games, a few multiplayer games are immensely possibly to a distorted level. Hearthstone, COD, BF, starcraft, league of legends, overwatch. All those games very popular.

Well if anyone is on the fence for this game let me assure you that this is the best single player experience I've had this gen, graphically it's jaw dropping in places (particularly upscaled to 4k) it must look amazing on pc!

It makes a refreshing change being set back in time instead of all this jumping and jet packing around!

It has a solid story mode so far with as usual solid Battlefield mechanics!

Cod is dead in the water as far as I'm concerned and the only interest i have in this years farcical episode is for MW Remaster only and a spot of Zombies in space which could turn out ok or be dropped at the drop of a hat because its useless.

Was playing Battlefield 1 single player last night and the visuals and story are mind blowing, literally some of the shots are draw dropping,i don't want to keep harping on about my new 65inch UHD Samsung KS9000 but the picture with the HDR enabled is like nothing else i have ever seen before,Gear 4 looks stunning ,Battlefield 1 in another league and its had me breathless with sheer delight on the 2 hours i spent on it last night.

On the other hand I'm extremely annoyed that a KX Sony tv hardly 2.5 years old doesn't support HDR ,or Sony don't want to give it the firmware to obtain HDR.

The Sony tv has been great and it to has outstanding pictures' i realise the technology moves really fast and HDR is the rage this year but £3000 for a TV and 2 years later TVs costing a 3rd of the price have HDR and a far superior picture...

In the days of Radio Rentals and Visionhire in the 70s when the majority of us were blown away by the introduction of Teletext and slots on the back for 50p pieces it wouldn't matter, just trade in ,Upgrade for the later model in those good old days.crazy.

I remember it now,guy from the rental shop coming around and emptying the Tv and giving us back the difference, then down the shop with me Masons, and Corona pop bottles for the deposit back that generally bought me 5 park drive and a book of matches ,a trip to the cinema and still had change.....tongue

Lets not forget the coal Delivery and Any old Iron, and me mothers Mangle in the back garden and outside freezing cold toilets, all that and I'm only 35 crazy

Haven't really played a multiplayer game seriously since BF3, picking up on what Chrysalis said I kinda rather single player recently as I often get my gaming interrupted so that is a big benefit of single player games which I can just pause and get back to.

I've been playing Battlefront on the PS4 and you have server regions. I can play in different territories and get better results. Used to be able to do that in BLOPS 2 with some success. I wonder does BF1 have the same networking?

Will try it with VPN on my PS4 when I get round to ordering a long crossover cable.

Ive found that East Coast US is pretty consistent. Not perfect, but far better than Europe.

The Xbox app shows my connection at 150ms. Not sure if that's to their network or to Gears 4 servers. Pity the PSN doesn't tell you that sort of information.

tech has always been drip fed, its all about maximising profits.

There is probably all sorts of tv tech available but wont be released (or enabled) until its deemed commercially a good time to do so. Its how things are sadly.

Everyone to their own tho 65inch to me is absolutely massive I also dread to think of the cost, I guess you have a quite big property so the distance to the screen is reasonable.

I agree that HDR is a very good technology (I tend to HDR enable as many PC games I play as possible makes a very nice difference).

Another example is that OLED has been around for a while now but we only now starting to see it on very few tv's, OLED can display blacks natively unlike LCD. If you own a samsung S phone (OLED screens), compare it to a phone with a IPS screen and you be amazed at the difference.

Ok I guess you just like large screens, hence as I said everyone has their own taste.

In my living room if I put a 65inch there I would probably need to turn my head to see the sides as it would be too wide to see all parts of it at once.

I understand smile

In truth my 32inch for gaming I think is too small I move the sofa closer so I can see things easier, as I am used to gaming at a PC desk.

At the same time tho 65 would be too big, for me I think 42inch would be ideal for gaming, but my living room is quite small I live in a small contained flat.

After I got a 27inch monitor, 22inch "feels small" now for pc gaming smile My PS3 is hooked upto a 22inch next to my 27, the xbox 360 is hooked up to my 27. PS4 i hooked upto 32inch tv in living room.

What I really miss tho when gaming on my PS4 is the sound from headphones, I think its a lot better to play with headphones than TV speakers. I did consider moving the PS4 to my bedroom where the PC and other consoles are but I dont think I can make it work, another console would have to move out and the lack of analogue out on the ps4 is an issue as well.

Re: Battlefield 1..My Thoughts

[re: time2die] [link to this post]

Game looks absolutely spectacular but unfortunately for me its a complete and utter bore when playing online, doesnt suit my playing style which is a fast frantic run and gun, maps are massive and if your not in a vehicle then you wont be scoring much regardless of kills and how much you play in the Rush mode.

Go into the Map,run to the objective [capture the flag] Ie Rush, get shot by snipers,Spawn run a bit more, get shot by snipers and rinse and repeat.

Nothing remotely exciting about continuous dying on the field when trying to complete objectives,im not useless at FPS that clear, but this game has nothing to do with reflexes and gun control, the maps are typical Battlefield style and the action is intense and some of the best i have ever seen but that doesn't make for a great game when it doesn't suit your play style.

Im not going to enter a map and start crawling around to objectives and spending half my time perched on a cliff edge camping with a sniping gun.

I tried it again last night and within about 5 minutes i had 1 kill and 10 deaths and the frustration made me rage quit.

If your in a vehicle like a tank and the guy driving the tank is a hardened Battlefields player then you will almost certainly be top of the scoreboard every time ,like the other night when i jumped into someones Tank finished 2nd with a lovely score, but how boring was that, on foot I'm literally last every time and find this game a complete and utter bore.

I die a lot in other Shooters like MW but i get many kills also and i enjoy it, this I'm not enjoying, the single player was awesome but just like previous Battlefield games i just can not get on with the online element in these games, its possibly the way i play as i am not one for strategy and staying with my team in the squad as i just don't get any enjoyment out of it.....Jorkila will disagree and thats fine as he has always loved the games and probably alters his playing style.

MW remaster releases next week and I'm looking forward to some old fashioned Fps at its best, problem is its 9 years old and I'm 9 years older so it may not have the initial wow factory it did on release and i may again find that this type of game is passing me by and the reflexes are not what they used to be.

On the other hand as far as I'm concerned and online......Gears 4 Horde rules.wink

You obviously haven't played the small map set in the Argonne forest then? That is a very close quarters map, Amiens is street fighting, also Suez is another CQC. So that's three small maps that don't need vehicles.
You do need to find a weapon you like and learn its characteristics. Have a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6Vc9XYwdNw

Battlefield games have always offered different map sizes and play modes. Maybe you'd be better off sticking to TDM??
There's a new map coming out in Dec and there will be more maps released over the coming years

I'm level 16 or maybe 17 at the moment and have been playing most nights, no expert but pretty deadly with my trusty SL Sweeper
I'm loving this game, IMO it's without doubt one of the best FPS ever. It has something for everyone except wall jumping 13 year old boys

It's such a shame for you that it doesn't suit your play style. I feel your pain frown

I absolutely love Battlefield 1. It's certainly not a game you can play alone, it's one that is best played in a squad otherwise it's almost impossible to survive. If you play in a squad and work together you can stay alive for so much longer. I was online with 2 friends last night, 2 of us went medic and 1 went assault and if one of us went down there was someone there to revive them. I read something that the Developers said a few months ago where they said this one has even more emphasis on squad play and that playing alone would not be a pleasant experience.

I'm really enjoying going back to basics with the guns and gadgets, it feels like everyone is on more of an even playing field other than the snipers! They are in a league of their own as usual but I have found some ways to avoid them now I am learning the maps.

I'm enjoying the campaign too although I've only played a couple of the acts, it's nice to have separate stories for a change and it feels a bit more realistic than following one soldier who fights 12 battles and takes down half an army by himself.

My one frustration (which was present in the last Battlefield) is that you cannot change weapons or setups outside the game, you have to do it in game. I'd like a bit more time to think about my setup and what I want to buy rather than feeling rushed because I want to get back into the action.

I've not played Gears yet, I'd love to give the new horde a whirl though! I really enjoyed that on the last one. Unfortunately I don't get much time to game anymore so BF1 is the first game I have bought in ages. I will try and pick Gears up whilst I am off for 2 weeks over xmas.

Totally agree with you. Last night I joined an empty server and went on a sending spree, I think I have all my classes set up how I want them now. Good news that you don't have to unlock slots and I'm happy that there are hundreds of mods enviable for each weapon

These are my stats!

https://battlefieldtracker.com/bf1/profile/psn/nelst...

Compare that to my BF4 stats (that I gave up on like you have frown)

In reference to bf4stats.com/ps4/nelster:
Battlefield 4

Combat stats

Time played 04:19:11
Kills 17
Deaths 129
K/D ratio 0.132
Headshots 4
Dogtags taken

I have now set up my crossover cable and I'm using a server with no buffer bloat whatsoever!

The difference is mental. Now I get the same average experience as everybody else. The odd player is unkillable (the guy that's 45 - 2, there's one in every game! mad) but my kills count....[censored]!!!

I loaded up Battlefront first and immediately went 16 - 5 in the first match. Opponents died and you felt the bullet actually counting!

So I went out and bought BF1. smile Look at my stats for roughly the same amount of time played and you'll see what I mean. I need to learn how to play the game the right way now. Jesus, the amount of times people have told me that in the past, and it was impossible. Suddenly, when you actually feel the hits as they come, you can grasp that sentiment. I had one match last night where not a single bullet got a hit marker for half an hour. 0 - 9 and that was even while using the trains cannon....madness.

Then when it finished, the lobby hung and the sever wouldn't populate. New server, and game on again! Once I managed to unlock the first weapon Swanny recommended (Swanny's link shows you the medic class starting rifle is pants) I was away with positive K/D's in three games on the bounce.

I won't be setting the world alight, but the difference my new connection seems to have made is phenomenal; it's no coincidence. Need to heed the farmer's advice now and push that K/D closer to 1.0 smile

As an aside, BF1 (to me) feels like the perfect blend of COD gameplay and Battlefield strategy. Similar in a lot of ways to Battlefront.

I played on my own for a couple of hours last night. Started off playing like a girl. I was terrible. I think it was too much cider from friday night out and not getting to bed until 3am. I stuck with it and joined ranks with Nelly and Marko. Still not looking good for me until we changed server and I started on the 12 yo Aberlour.
What a transformation smile

Timey
You really need to be in a squad and you need to be talking to them. This is not really a single player multi player game

Trouble is thats a difficult thing in its own right as to be honest how many have 5 friends all online at the same time, that scenario Swanny is just not practical for me and quite a few others who tend to play these games, even when you do join a Squad nobody is using a headset and when they are they are a complete bunch of jerks.

Even when yourself your friend Nelly and me were playing The Division it ended up with people just generally mucking about and not really trying to achieve the objectives.

Unless you have many online friends met over many years then in practice what you say is true but generally its not happening.

I can go on 5 times a week and see nobody playing, when i do its possibly Jorkila and his Son for short periods due to his work commitments which is understandable .

Finally got round to playing this recently and the prologue is amazing, Must look crazy good on a decent spec PC.
Had a few games on multiplayer as well and although there were a few bullet sponges generally it appeared pretty decent.

https://battlefieldtracker.com/bf1/profile/xbox/Iran... for my stats, Lower than I usually am but I don't know many maps at the mo and generally the starting guns are naff against some of the later ones (although I do like the assault starter gun).

Having 1/2 a team sniping is highly annoying though especially when they are on your team camping on a hill in the middle of no where.

Hey Swan and the others who have BF1, have you seen the Battlefield Companion app for the smartphone / tablet? I got it last night and it's great, it's really quick and easy to customise your loadout, buy upgrades, see your progress toward class specific levels etc. There isn't much more on it, but one of the other nice features shows you friends that are online. It's quite useful if you do want to quickly check if any friends are online without booting up the console / machine.
