FFXV

[link to this post]

From the short time i tested it I'm impressed with a franchise i didn't really like since FF7 on the first playstation i think ?

Now we dont have these random generated battles every 30 seconds and a better battle system and some top notch graphics I'm liking it.

But first I'm concentrating on Watchdogs 2 and the online Hacking and Bounty missions which are amazing.

was a PS1 and PC release.

Probably best game ever to be made.

It is the game that broke into the western market for the final fantasy series.

Yup that's my bad, That's what happens when you read a post too quick after having a few beers and killing a load of noobs on BF1 that came across from COD at the same time.

installled but not played yet, I got tied up in some stuff.

I see tho that they joined the season pass bandwagon, season pass for £15 urrgh.

Mind you its even worse for watchdogs 2, £30 for season pass, absolute nonsense.

Before I start FF15 I need to check if bonus items are tied to beating the demo, as in recent FF games square enix have awarded exclusive in game items for beating the demo.

I played it for about 45 minutes and 30 minutes of that been the training arena and i have to say from what i have played its a massive relief that they have dropped the auto battles and the battle system is a lot better and i think when i have finished other games i may well fall in love with this FF game.

Im hacking everybody available in Watchdogs 2 at the minute and concentrating on this one game in general because it has so much content, have Killing Floor 2 to revisit and Dishonoured 2 and a fair few others, but I'm generally loving watchdogs 2 so I'm spending my time on this for now.

lets not forget Battlefield 1 and MW Remaster, but i more than likely will quickly forget about them 2 games,im just not a Battlefield Fan,havent got the patience to troll though all the tedious levelling up part required to be honest.

I much prefer a brilliant single player game mode to be fair with apart from Hacking in Watchdogs 2 and Bounty hunt and online then my fix is gears 4 horde all the way.

Saying that come next Friday then i will switch tactics and play the Playstation long awaited game The Last Guardian from the developers who bought us Ico and Shadow of Colossus.

I know to well this is not going to look at good as most of the games on the Pro and playstation 4 and Xbox One in general but waiting a decade for a game then based on the previous two then i think its going to be worth the wait.

Also in between a little crazy Zombie bashing in Dead Rising 4 on Tuesday evening ?

It's my take on the completely made up rubbish just like the sort of stuff that BF and COD fanboys like to come out with, You know like I've been doing well recently so there must be a lot of COD noobs as they don't know about bullet drop etc.

My K/D has been going up nicely recently tho but that's probably because I've played it more and the old muscle memory is starting to kick in now.

Put a few hours into this now as you may have noticed with my achievements.

For me this is not the best FF game I have played but I will keep at it as I remember when I first played FF13 I Initially took a dislike to it and then ended up loving that game. (and its sequels).

Visuals - Are very very good, I think considering the PS4 hardware they have done a good job, as the performance is reasonable so far.
Battles - Whilst I am ok with real time action battles, so far I am find it hard to get to grips with it, as its hard to see when an enemy is attacking me and as such defend at the right moments, as a result of this my finesse grade at the end of battle is mostly a D, occasionally I have got an C. The way libra works is awkward and I find the wait mode feature not optimal either. With that said the battle system is not a complete mess like star ocean 5, the battles are something that I think with time I might get used to and find perfectly fine later on.
Bugs - The only obvious bug I have so far is ignis analyze skill, it is supposed to auto libra all enemies at start of battles, which it definitely is not doing, sometimes it kicks in after about 10 seconds but then only for one enemy, the description (and a couple of guides I checked) says it should auto libra most enemies (probably meaning all mob type enemies).
Performance - definitely better than the first demo which was a stuttery mess, loading times are lengthy tho.
Open world - Time will tell if I think this was the right thing to do, open world games add exploration, but they can also make a very grindy game, e.g. in this game I already know there is resource collecting of minerals etc. I came across some enemies at night that whipped my backside and I had to make a run for it smile
Characters - Normally FF games are a mix of female and male characters, they also follow japanese type themes with how the characters are made up, this game has gone against that trend with 4 males and a modern setting.
Other stuff - I think some of the UI elements are too small, its been designed with the assumption someone is playing on a very large screen, this I think is also contributory to my issues with the battles also as from my sofa (which is already pulled closer to tv) the enemies are too small on screen. I of course wouldnt have this issue using my PC monitor as that is way closer to my chair. So this has me made me again want to get the PS4 into my monitor setup.

Thats a relief then as i thought the battle system was far better than the tedious random battles generated in the previous games that totally spoiled it for me, walk 10 paces a random encountered that 30 seconds after walking another 30 yards yet another random generated battle, rinse and repeat and that was FF and one of the main reasons i hated it, you couldn't explore look at things without some random generated battle that quite frankly got on my nerves and completely put me of the series.

Problem is the game like many others are all released at a crammed release schedule and FFXV is probably my last choice with the long list of games i have to play.

Developers/Publishers have got to stop this stupidity when they all release there games at the same time year in year out,its not good for gamers and its not good for sales in general and this is reflected on developers complaining of low sales of there games in the last few weeks.

They seem to have it in there heads, lets wait until the end of the year like November and release a game we could have shipped 2/3 months ago, and everybody has the same idea and its so stupidly get the colder months people game more but some weeks there are actually about 4 games i want all released with in the space of 4 days.

note there is random enemy spawns, but like FF13 you can choose to avoid the fights.

The frequency of these spawns in the first part of the game where I am is very low but they will probably increase later in the game, also they occur more often at night which is to be expected really. smile

FF13-1, no spawns, enemies are always visible in the field, so you avoid fights by not making contact with them,
FF13-2. spawns and are random, however the spawns dont start a fight, the enemy spawns on the field close to you, you can fight or move out of range to avoid the fight.
FF13-3 (lightning returns) spawns like FF13-2 but the fights are easier to avoid as the game makes it easier to run away from enemies. Also there is limited amount of each enemy species before they go extinct, its possible to wipe them all out and have no enemies to kill smile

The last time FF used random forced battles was on the PS2.

Its getting outstanding reviews for a game that in places looks dated and in others looks amazing, control system and camera have issues but with this developer they always have with the previous games like Ico and Shadow Of Colossus.

But both these games were on the Playstation 2 and The Last Guardian has been in development so long there are going to be a few problems and i expect it to look dated, but this is about a boy and his companion Trico and many puzzle elements within a beautiful environment ,game been in development 9 years and completely missed the playstation 3 life cycle so that is going to have a impact in one way or another.

But the 2 previous games i mentioned were class acts and a joy to play, even with the camera panning in the wrong direction and not retaining the correct focus.

To be honest Swanny I'm disappointed in most games in 2016 and think its been a weak year to be fair, there has been some good ones, but there has been more bad ones and this constant remasters have to stop at some stage.

One thing that is a worry is the unstable frame rate on the normal playstation 4 and even the Pro in some cases, digital foundry has said only buy it if you have a Pro wink Im sure they can patch it before Friday.

bit of an update as I have progressed now a bit on the story.

So far I have found the actual story elements of the game seem quite short, not much needs doing to progress, this depending on what you want from a game can be a good or bad thing.

Once you are passed a certain point in the story, then certain enemies appear frequently when exploring, I knew it was coming as I read complaints from others on gamefaqs, you can run from the fights tho which I am probably going to do as not only do they appear a lot but the enemy count in each battle seems to increase after you defeat each group.

Now after playing on my PC monitor, I am getting into battles much better than on the TV and am getting to grips with the battle system.

The good ol PS4 is struggling now with framedrops, not gamebreaking tho like the last guardian.

Since installing the hybrid drive the loading times seem noticeably faster, this conflicts with benchmarks some people have ran but my own personal experience suggests a hybrid drive is worth it (or pure ssd I guess).

Performance upgrades can be brought for the car, I dont know when tho, but I do know its possible as cindy the mechanic has an option to fit performance upgrades.

Also for the impatient you can fast travel in the game, the only time you cannot fast travel is when travelling to a unexplored location.

Its give and take, people asked for a open world FF and this is what they got, open world means extra time moving around.

I have got some of the upgrades now, although the ones I got improve fuel use capability and speed during turning, but they are both really noticeable especially the fuel.

In regards to the driving around, its part of the game immersion really, you have to manage the time of day stuff (demons come out at night on the roads) and plan your driving. Also there is a way that driving earns you AP (which is a pain to get so makes a fair difference).

I am enjoying this game now but again the story does feel on the light side although is a good plot also.

Never really been one for long winded stories that generally make little to no sense anyway so i don't really care, thats my problem with rpg in general, like walking into a village [even the mighty Zelda Games] and having to speak to everyone for the next clue can get a tad frustrating and boring if you ask me.

got all the trophies in the game now.

The battle system is definitely weak compared to previous FF games, me beating the adamanatoise (super post game boss) simply involved me holding down the warp attack button repeatedly, took ages but that was it really.

Pitloss post game dungeon is brilliant tho, well designed, its basically like a 3d platformer, no enemies, just have to navigate through a dungeon with traps, small ledges etc. Note you cannot save or fast travel out of dungeons, so basically once you in you need to get yourself out also. smile
