PSN account sharing

[link to this post]

Right. So I've Googled this, but there dosen't seem to be a definitive explanation that works for me. I'm sure it's because they don't make a proper distinction between the terms "user" (as in console user login) and "PSN user account".

I want to use my PS4 pro, but let the kids have access to the games I purchase digitally on my PSN account, on my old PS4. Whenever anybody logs into either, it boots the other out, whichever way round.

Can anybody post a description (or a link to an easily comprehensible one) of the exact process, and advise whether I have to delete any existing content firfst before commencing?

Ta

P.S. the two PS3's in the house never have this issue

They need their own profile and your main profile has to be set as primary on the old PS4 mate, the only downfall to that is your game saves aren't automatically uploaded via ps+

I've tried that but it still doesn't seem to let them play the downloaded content? I'll try again.

Do they have a sub account? Sub accounts have access to the games from the main account and you should be able to log in to both at the same time.

Sign in on the other console and set your account as primary, start the download that they want, sign out and then sign in with their account and it should work without issues.
Your account must remain as primary on their console or it won't work, your account can only be set as primary on one console at any one time.

When you say account, you don't mean PSN account? There is only my one.

So downloaded content can only be played on the primary console according to the message on the PS4 itself, when you deactivate it?

You can only sign in your account in 1 place at a time, So if you want to both play at the same time then you need 2 PSN accounts, I'm sure if you set your old PS4 to your primary console then you can just make up a free account (for your son) and because that console is the home console then they share your playstation plus account and can play multiplayer as well.

Sorted it. Deleted the game then downloaded it again in the order you mentioned and it doesn't boot me out anymore. Cheers Burt. smile

There isn't normally but if you have a playstation plus account on your account and set a PS4 as a primary console then any GT signed into that console gets access to multiplayer as well (unless something has changed which I doubt as they did it after M$ started it).

So if you have set the old PS4 to primary for your account and you have playstation plus then if you make up a free account then if that free account signs into that console then they should have access to multiplayer (like I said unless something has changed but it's what my mate and his kids did and I assume still do)

Sorry mate, what's a GT?

And where do I look to find a free account sign up?

Edit: I think I'm with you know Raffa. I wasn't makmg the distinction between ps plus and a psn account (that enables free to play games). I'll give it a try. Might be able to set up LAN games of COD on the other TV when my bud comes over. smile

Yeah sorry I'm so used to saying Gamer Tag. That's literally what we used to do although we used to take it online with another name so it deffo used to be possible and like I said I doubt it's changed as M$ still do it so I doubt they have stopped it (not sure if it still is as we've changed from playing on the PS4 after the midweek issues of network going down quite often last year)

Ahh, Gamer Tag! Obvious in hindsight. smile

Anyway, something you said has made me wonder. As I've said many times before, I have never had the issues that everyone keeps on about, with the PSN "undergoing maintenance" all the time.

Anyway, since I've been running a did-wrt router for whole house vpn coverage, I've found that the PSN doesn't like IP address changes. In fact, there can be a problem with dynamic addresses that move too far in geographical terms, leading to "banning" the said address for 24 hours or more. I've noticed that when it locks the IP address out, the "undergoing maintenance" notification comes up on failure to connect.

I wonder if this is sometimes what causes users to believe that the PSN is down in their locality, when in fact it is not their locality, but their ISP or a routing issue? There are plenty of examples on PSN lockout due to dynamic IP addresses online, but I've only recently seen for myself the error message it gives, "undergoing maintenance".

The only problem I experience with the PSN, is the store when everybody is trying to download the same game at the same time. Bog slow, or takes ages to react to button presses.

That's interesting about the IP address thing I didn't know about that.

I know for sure that of the 4 times we tried to login on different dates and got an error

2 of them were proper PSN maintenance (well going by the PSN status page)
1 of them was due to DDOS attacks
No idea on the other at this point we made sure we had a XB1 on standby and didn't look it up.

Apparently with most of the PSN official maintenance ones if you are/were already signed in when it starts then you can continue what you are doing, If you are not then you can't sign in.

I can't honestly say how often it goes down for maintenance or what not as I don't have one all I can go by is when Myself and a few mates all got to meet up the once every other week or so that we do that for 4 times over the 2 months we couldn't sign in once due to the above.

I messaged my mate about the IP address thing you mentioned and the first thing he said was "HA HA F*CK off todays issue is not that". When I asked him what he meant he told me that the PSN servers were down (not sure if still are as he's gone work now) Apparently went down just as the For Honor game was officially released LOL, He seems to remember it doing the same for another big release BF1 possibly but other than these issues he only has issues maybe once a month, I'm sure I've seen Timey say he has issues fairly often tho so will be interesting to see if it's possibly the IP issue with him.
