Pros & Cons of MaxDSL

[link to this post]

While I'm not going to hold my breath until it actually happens....

What are the pros and cons of accepting a MaxDSL service that Metronet/ Plusnet are offering.
I'm currently on 2Mbps line getting ~1.7 (rarely 2!)

Will I sacrifice stability (albeit at lower speed) for occasional better speed?

I am probably at the limits for current 2MBPS line in terms of distance from the exchange, will that mean my MaxDSL speeds will be worse or just not significantly better??

What does the BT Checker say for you?

http://www.btwholesale.com/get_broadband/index.html

And what is your downstream attenuation and current downstream SNR ?

Who knows if your service will be better or not? It depends on a lot of things, like line length, quality of your line, your router/modem.

If you are already on a 2Mbit line then you should get a bit more speed, but it may not be reliable. So far I am not that impressed with ADSL Max as my connection is not stable.

nonymouse -

The BT line checker results should appear in a pop-up window. Maybe you've got a pop-up blocker running preventing you seeing them.

If you continue to have trouble, you can get the same information from the line checker at http://www.zenbroadband.com
