Low SNR + frequent disconnection. Whos at fault?

[link to this post]

Have just joined Namesco following the bankrupcy of Euro1net.

As a Euro1net customer I never had any problems with my broadband. However from day 1 of being live with Namesco I keep on getting frequent random disconnections.

Have contacted namesco but despite following their checks I still get the same problem. I decided to see what my SNR was having read that this may be a cause. My SNR ir around 7 but fluctuates between 6 and 8. Are these low numbers for SNRs?

Basically I am considering leaving Namesco immediately but want to know who is likely to be at fault. Namesco suggest contacting BT wholesale and paying for an engineer but given this problem was never there with Euro1net I dont see why I should.

What do you folks think?

Sounds like you're on ADSL Max, and if you are, this is normal behaviour in the first 10 days. After this "training period" you will find your connection starts to become much more stable.

Is this 'training period' a calibration type period?

i.e do I need to leave my router on 24 hours a day to get a more stable connection in the future?

Thanks

No. Those using USB modems will not generally leave their computers running 24/7. The thing to avoid is intended (and unintended) bursts of re-synching, which will tend to be seen as an unstable line.

I did leave my router on throughout the 10-day period and had a relatively painless transition. At the end of the 10 days, I asked to have my target SNR lifted from 6db to 9db to improve stability (I was disconnecting about 10 times/night). Since then, I have had a stable line, albeit at a reduction of throughput by 400kbps.

Same here.

My line is a lot more stable at 9 dB with interleaving enabled.

p.s. my line only used to disconnect a couple of times in the night not 10 times!
