Virtual path query

My exchange has 6 DSLAM's and so let's say that each DSLAM has 3 VP's, then does this mean that if only one of the 18 VP's becomes congested, then the whole exchange goes on red status?

If the above theory is right then it explains why most exchanges are red.

Also as I have just recently found out, that only the DSLAM that I'm connected to is able to be used by me so do I take it that this means that if the 3 VP's that my DSLAM uses (as in the above example) are uncongested this should mean that I wouldn't notice any congestion even though another person living down my street could notice some congestion at peak times due to the fact that he or she is connected to another DSLAM in the exchange which has one or more of it's VP's working at peak capacity?

Also is there any average figure to the number of VP's that are connected to a DSLAM or is it impossible to say?

You may still experience congestion elsewhere on the BT network or your ISP's or elsewhere on the net. And if everyone on your VP decides to get busy at the same time you will suffer congestion.
I dont think anyone knwos what criteria BT uses to determine when a VP goes amber or red, but being green dosnt mean there is no contention just that is within BTs performance guidelines.

I don't ever remember my exchange going on amber status only red or green!

Not very often.

In fact the only time I go out of my way to check is when I suffer from congestion which happened a few weeks ago.

This isn't so bad now even though my exchange status has gone back to red again.

I'm not obsessed with checking but it's just that I've seen a lot of threads on here recently about the number of exchanges that are congested!
