Hello! need some help please...
I installed Home Hub on PC over Christmas with no problems on existing broadband line. Installed Home Hub software on Toshiba Laptop with Netgear WG511T Wireless card and all worked ok, Email and Internet etc. Rebooted Laptop and no Internet access (Page not found) although the little green Netgear icon shows excellent connection to the correct (only) BT Router. Re-install the Home Hub software and all works until a reboot, where again the Internet is not accessible. Every time the software is re-installed all is ok until a reboot of the Laptop. India has made suggestions but to no avail. I'm not sure that they grasped the problem!
The Laptop works ok when a CAT5 cable is plugged in to the Ethernet port of the BT router.
I am at a loss as to what it could be as no settings appear to change before and after reboot.
I would be grateful for any assistance,
Regards, Nick.

Hi Phil,
IP is 169.254.169.150 and subnet is 255.255.0.0 ( I always stumble with Comms)

the 169 address means the wireless connection didn't get an IP from the Hub. Try doing "Repair" or Disable then Enable on the wireless connection.

Hi Phil,
Needless to say it couldn't renew the IP Address on Repair. Disable and re-enable gives Invalid IP Address

is the WEP key or similar security set correctly ? if not you won't get an IP address.

Hi Phil,
Yes the WEP seems to be good because the Netgear green screen is happy and shows good signal strength to the BT Router. Interestingly enough (Probably not) when I connect via the Ethernet port all is ok with a 192.168.1.* address and a similar Default Gateway address,
Nick.

The signal strength indicator is not indicative of WEP correctness. Uninstall the hub software, remove the hub from the list of networks on the Netgear icon and start again with a "view available networks" search.

Hi Phil,
That didn't work but....I went in to the properties tab / Wireless Networks and selected Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings and entered the WEP key and applied. A dialogue box appeared askingif I wanted Netgear Wizard to configure and I said no. Checked the IP in Support Tab and all is set to 192.168.1.* apart from subnet and all works ok, i.e Internet is achievable.
Not sure how I get it to keep these settings though,
Nick.

if you're using Windows to manage it then it remembers them fairly well. Often a problem when more than one thing manages the network card, also different definitions of WEP key length etc can get in the way.
