Lost Packets

[link to this post]

I had a problem with a wired connection - pinging the router gave very variable responses with times of around 800ms. Tried various options, MTU, fixed rate, half/full duplex, new cable, reboots &c. Nothing specific but suddenly it all came right. so I started it pinging - with <1ms response time.

The currrent results are 1026377 pings with 217 lost packets - mostly they occur in blocks of 5 or 6 before returning to ,1ms. Occasionally I see a short burst of 1,2 3 ms pings but that seems to be when there is a high level of traffic on the router or teh PC is doing something else. Is that an acceptable rate of loss?
