How to test speed and get line stats

Well you said this was the place for basic questions! And I am posting 'anonymously' because although logged in [as trinculo] when I go to this forum I am unable to remain logged in or re-log in. I have looked at the faq but some of the links don't work e.g. 'a page of tweaks' and 'very simple MTU tool' [whatever MTU is] so I have decided to cut to the chase and ask;

1. How do I tell what speed my connection is running at? I do not have and seem unable to get any indication on the taskbar. I have a wireless router [D-Link DSLG604T] to which I am connected via cable LAN.

2. How do I/can I get 'line stats'?

3. While I am at it, what is entanet? Is it some generic name? or a specific company name? I see it mentioned a lot in 'who-is-the-best-ISP' type discussions. [Don't they realise there is no such thing?!]

Entanet is a wholesale ISP resold by a number of smaller companies of variable quality.

Your DLink thing should have a status page somewhere with the line stats, often reversed. See www.kitz.co.uk ADSL pages for how to get stats off particular models.

Sounds like a cookie problem. Are you accepting them?

Not cookie problem, but operator error [as usual!] Did not realise you had to register AGAIN to post. For some reason no message appeared on this forum spelling it out but did on another one. Now done.

So no natty little speedo on the taskbar possible? Tcha!

Of course its possible, but not really worth the resources.

That's caught a few people out since the change. I'm afraid I tend to forget about it because I was registered here beforehand, so I only had to register for the main board, if you see what I mean. As I spend most of my time in the forums, I tend to forget the main board stuff...
