Exchange Location

Over the net i was able to find out the very street my local exchange was on, do you think thats a good idea to be able to find this sort of thing so easily. Anyone could attempt to vandalise lol

they are fairly obvious to local vandals from the odd architecture, the clusters of BT vans, cellular base stations, BT Keep Out signs etc. Al Quaeda will have them all marked down.

Like the BT tower (AKA The Post Office Tower / Telecom Tower) in London, not officially existing until the early 1990s.
Not difficult to spot, even if nobody locates it on a map for you.
The same applies to it's baby brother in Birmingham, and the one on the Chiltern Hills cutting (by the side of the M40) - Also not difficult to spot.

The same applies to telephone exchanges.
The one here is a prime example;
It's a multi-storey building, with a massive chain-link fence around the perimeter, a compound full of BT and Openreach vans, and massive 20' high plaster (well, probably plastic) castings in the shape of telephone dials up the sides of the building.
You'd have to be a complete Phyllis not to know what that building's for!

You've every right to be worried, if they're prepared to remove copper from live radio transmitters - 3rd & 4th pictures up from the bottom (OK, it's only 80w, but they weren't to know that), they'll be prepared to remove copper from anywhere.

someone removed a 3.3 kV distribution cable from a bridge for the copper, so radio's relatively low on the risk scale

Or like those who stole a fibre cable somewhere in the North East, taking out a huge chunk of the Vodafone network. N Wales was out all day !

I wonder how they got on melting down the fibre and selling it for scrap

Perhaps they wanted it for a self-install FTTH
