Synched at 20 meg, but only get 14 meg

[link to this post]

I have a modern faceplate, a BT ADSL filtered faceplate but speedtests like NDO report 15 meg.

Maximum download speed I had was 1.5 megabytes a second on a download manager

I understand there is things affecting it, but the router is about 10 feet away, has latest firmware, I have an expensive wireless PCI card, and latest drivers, so its a problem.

If an exact 20Meg then you need to allow 10-12% for ATM overhead, so knocking 2 to 2.5Mbps off that speed, so maximum IP throughput of around 17.5Mbps, and 15Mbps is a good percentage of that, so not really what you would label as a problem.

See if you can get an extra meg or two by connecting with ethernet instead of wireless.

It was nice of you to thank them for trying to help! Sorry I must have accidentally deleted it without seeing it.

Not enough "it seems"! Especially in the politeness department. Also demonstrated by your inappropriate laughing out loud.

Speeds for downloads increasing after flushing DNS sounds odd, unless this is P2P speeds and lots of DNS lookups are occuring

A large HTTP download should only need one lookup at the start.

Cost of wireless cards very often has little to do with performance level
