DSL max

[link to this post]

i changed to dsl max from a fixed 2mb line being told that i could get upwards of 2.5mb i have now finshed my 10 days and my ip profile is still 2mb at the start of the 10 days my line was syncing at around 2.8-3.2 now it is syncing at just under 2.8 i spent an hour on the phone to bt last night for them to tell me at the end that my line cant handle any more than 2mb and never will for the foreseeable future yet is still says on the bt wholesale site i can get 2.5 and sky are advertising 3mb to me i know every line is different but i have seen people with worse line stats than me syncing a 3.5 and upwards my stats are
Connection Rate: 2848
Line Attenuation: 55
Noise Margin: 6
My noise fluctuates between 2-9 from 4pm till about 9pm
Does anyone have any advice on what i can do
Many thanks

The BT website is talking about connection speeds and as 2848 is above 2.5 they would seem to be right.

Is the line sync varying, it only needs to drop below 2848Kbps for you to get a 2Mbps profile.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/sections/radsl.html#225

So the exact sync speed is important.

Attention to your internal wiring should bring you better that that with 55dB attenuation.

Try putting you router close to the master socket.
If you have hard wired extensions consider disconnecting the ring wire at the master socket end (it's in terminal #3)
If you are using cheap filters consider replacing them. Best option would be a filtered faceplate.

Finally not all routers are equal. The modem sections vary considerably and I have yet to see any review cover that - they all seem to concerntrate on the firewal and wireless (if any). What one are you using?

I would expect you to get better than you are, have you tried at the test socket behind the faceplate.

These are my stats:-

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4448 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 56 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 9 db 20 db

I also use a DG834 v 2 and always sync over 4 Mb.

PlusNet MaxDSL
I use to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Yep that's nearer the mark. Not everybody will necessarily do that well on 55dB but it should certainly support better than 2Mb/s.

There are quite a few variations on the 834 - some good some bad. As cajef is doing pretty well with his that model must be fair so you need to checkout your internal wiring.

There is a guide here to ringwire removal (if that is applicable to you) - http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php

The main don'ts are..
Don't use cheapo filters on Max
Don't run the router on a long flat wire extension
Don't leave the ringwire connected if you have hardwired extensions.
