BT Line Checker

Hi All,

A month or so back I ran the BT Line Checker out of interest to see what it was reporting for my phone line. I'm currently on 512kbs, and the line checker which ALWAYS reported that I could only get half meg suddenly was reporting that I could get up to 1mbs!! Cool!! Unfortunately at the time my ISP was not issuing MAC codes, so I was hesitant to chance a move. Lately due to OFCOMs recommendations our ISP is now issuing MAC codes (for a charge), and I went to recheck my line prior to requesting a code.

The d4mn thing is now back to 512kbs!! Anyone know why this might happen?

Is that listing the max fixed speed? what does it say for MAX? If you are on a fixed speed, post your router stats, connection speed up and down, SNR etc
May be able to give a better idea on what you can get. The BT checker is an estimator and normally conservative.

it is an estimate. It really doesn't matter what it says if you go onto MaxDSL with a sensible ISP. If you were to post your attenuation and SNR margin stats (link in sig below may help find them) you could get some opinions on what is possible.

Note that the BT checker gives you two speeds, not one.

Ofcom reqirements are that MACs must be issued free of charge, and even if there is a financial dispute a MAC must still be issued, the dispute being a separate matter.
