Re-inserting wireless Dongle temp increases speed

[link to this post]

Hi,

Problem:
I can achieve download speeds of around 4Mb with my Madasafish connection. However, for some reason, after a period of browsing the internet, the speed always drops to around 0.6Mb per second. These two speeds are consistent - when the connection is working well, the speed is around 4Mb, and when it slows the speed is around 0.6Mb.

After numerous frustrating phone calls to Madasafish support (who seemed to ignore everything I said - i.e "I just tried that"), I stumbled across a quick fix to the problem. When I remove my Wireless USB Dongle (either my BT or Dlink one - not used at same time, but I have both because I was trouble shooting this issue) and reconnect immediately, the download speed immediately returns to 4Mb. I tried to discuss this issue with Madasafish support, but they just asked me to connect to the master socket etc etc.

Details:
PC - Vista 64 bit
Router - Voyager 2091 (connected to the test socket and has been reset)
Wireless USB - either of D-link and BT wireless dongles using downloaded Vista drivers.
Line stats:
Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 6112 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 5.6 dB 22.0 dB
Line Attenuation 39.0 dB 23.0 dB
Output Power 19.7 dBm 11.8 dBm

I am really getting frustrated with this, and was hoping to rectify the problem before I decide to switch provider (I know this is unlikely to help, but might be nice to get someone who wants to fix it).

I really hope that someone can help me with this problem, and I am grateful for and feedback you may have.

Regards,
Me

It sounds like a Vista problem. Presumably re-inserting the dongle restarts a network service. Do you get the same problem with other Window's OSs?

Thanks for the reply.

I also assume this is a Vista problem, but unfortunately I no longer have a PC running a previous OS to check.

I was just hoping that someone else had encountered and fixed this issue.

If things are fine when using an Ethernet connection then points to nothing to do with ADSL or ISP but your wireless hardware and either Vista or its drivers

Sorry for the delay in repsonding.

It looks like my wireless link consistently chugs along at 11Mbps. Are you aware of an issue that can cause the network to slow/stop dramatically when using Vista?
