VM Cable to IDNet ADSL, how?

[link to this post]

Hey,

I am with cable Virginmedia for phone, TV and Internet

I wanted to change to;

BT - line rental + TV
Talk Talk - phone (as I want cheap international calls, and BT is expensive)
IDNet - Internet

So I called up BT, but they said if I wanted a BT line rental I need to get their basic phone package

"Switch your calls and line to BT from a Cable provider
If you currently have service with a Cable provider please call us on 0808 100 5152. Please have your cable account number & your credit card ready when you call."

call them and tell them you want to "come back to BT". See what the offer is.

There are plenty of cheap calls providers you can use over a BT line or over VoIP, to give another option.

Have you asked Talk-Talk if they will provide the line if you want to pay them rental ?

If the OP pays line rental to TalkTalk they may MPF LLU the line in which case he cannot get broadband from anyone except TalkTalk so he should verify whether they do LLU at his local exchange before considering that.

They may - but Talk Talk as mentioned elsewhere has a policy of seeking consumers permission before doing this

Thanks again for replies, helped clarify a lot.

Running some of those tests that tells you what speed you expect from your exchange it says 2mb max download with adsl, I think.

I get around 400kb/s max with Virginmedia atm for straight downloads sometimes; which is fine, but I get a really bad ping for gaming servers, even in the UK. Something to do with connection between Virginemdia and Level3 being [censored]. Problems been around for a good year almost, issues been raised to VM many times but they keep avoiding it.

I enjoy playing a game on a UK server with some m8s, which I haven
