Brass Profile who set this bt or isp

[link to this post]

hi there

at the moment i am getting speeds of just over 2 meg on a up to 8 meg product i had the bt engineer over who said after running tests and logging on at over 4 meg and his tests saying i can get 6.5 meg as i have a very good line.

my isp agrees saying from there test i should be getting about that 6.5 , my isp as told me that my "card" (brass profile) at the exchange has been set to 3 meg max hence the speed. bt and the isp have told me that each other have set this. who will have set this ?

my isp has just told me that bt need to go to the exchange and reset the card, many thanks for any help

Problem with broadband - talk to broadband provider. Problem with phone - talk to phone provider.

results from speedtester.bt.com would be helpful - persistence may be required.

BT's answer to every problem is to clamp down on the speed.

They aren't really interested in finding out if and why there is a problem on the line.

All they care about is the line rental every month and hopefully charging an exhorbitant callout fee to swell the coffers.

BT don't limit the speed, looks like they have a 9 dB target margin. At 34 dB attenuation you should get towards the full 8128 so something is adrift.

Have you tried plugging the modem into the test socket behind the BT master socket faceplate ?

How much are 'BT' making from broadband line rental per month and how many metres of Her Majestys earth would you be willing to dig for that money?

no difference to the sync speed in the test socket - something is adrift. Do the phones still work while the modem is in the test socket ?
