BT reactivation charges

[link to this post]

Hello, im trying to leave virgin tinyband and get the bethere broadband, but i need to reactivate my BT line. I moved to this new house with my friend 4 months ago and the BT line was already here, but i think the last people leave without paying the BT bill so they disconected them. Now im trying to reactivate the line just to use for broadband and they are asking for a 125 pounds fee to reactivate it. I think that is unfair because no anyone will need to come to my house or do any engeneering work on the street, the only work will the on the exchange to plug my wires again that are already there. So there is no reason to charge 125 pounds for only this small job. But im thinking if there is another companies with more afordable prices to activate the line and if they make it work with bethere broadband, because they ask always for a BT line, and i dont know if they really need the BT line or is just a simbolic name for a regular landline.
Thank you for you help people !

BeThere requires a phone line (and these are provided by BT Wholesale although there are some providers other than BT Retail who can provide it).

BT charge a flat rate as whilst yours may be a low cost connection others may cost many thousands, by charging a flat rate they average costs out to a level that could be considered affordable.

There have been a number of threads on here about the bt activation costs but I'm afraid I don't have time to look for them. Look through some of the posts in the last 2 months on the "General Broadband Chatter forum" and I'm sure you will find the advice given to others.

BT have a Half price connection offer at the moment, 18month minimum contract on option 1,2 or 3.
Think the Post Office offer a cheaper connection that the standard BT rate.

i found some topics talking about it, but i just found one person that did the reactivation without paying after talking a lot with the BT people on the phone. For me its hard to try it because my spoken english is very limited and im without a mobile plan now to make a call to BT, so everything seems to be more painfull . Maybe there is a trick when talking to BT to make them reactivate my line for a small charge or even for free.
the problem is that im trying to cancel the virgin services, and ill need to pay another disconection fee, and sign the bethere and bt services, more fees... so im really thinking if is better or not to change my broadband provider because im using the cable and not a cooper line.
but the virgin services are slowing down every day more and more ... sometimes there is no way to even just browse the internet :/
well, thank you for the advice =)

im trying to contact the post office to see how mutch is the fee to reactivate a landline, and 18 months with bt to have half price of the reactivation i think its not a good deal, to long time of contract... i wanna see if the bethere broadband is so good like everyone is saying, and if dont , i cancel the broadband plan and the landline again.

"Switch your calls and line to BT from a Cable provider

If you currently have service with a Cable provider please call us on 0808 100 5152. Please have your cable account number & your credit card ready when you call. Don't forget to ask about our great offer to get FREE Evening & Weekend calls for a year."

say you have Cable and want to "come back to BT" and tell them about the socket. See if it has dial tone. Plead poverty, beg, etc.

the problem is that i dont wanna cancel my virgin contract until i have another broadband working very stable, and is will take 1-2 months for me to see if bethere is really a good broadband provider to make me leave virgin, and im not using any voice plan, just the TV and broadband now from virgin, i really dont even want to have a voice line working, i just want the cooper line to use broadband

If you want to be fussy just pay the price

BT can't cancel your Virgin contract.
