Reconnecting to BT from another provider question

[link to this post]

I cancelled my Bulldog contact which i had been with for nearly 3 years and they said i would have my account cancelled on 18 August with out any costs incurred

I then phoned BT to ask to be reconnected (free of charge as i was previously with them) and they said that would be done by 1st August and i need not contact Bulldog as they would deal with cancelling the line from Bulldog.

So im a bit confused now as to when i can get internet again.. can i apply for a new provider once im back with BT 1st of August as im guessing my line will be disconnected from Bulldog and with BT,

Am i safe in letting BT handle this or should i wait till the 18th August and then contact BT?
Im a bit worried as to let Isps handle it for me. Last time i changed my previous supplier claimed the other had told the other that the line was being cancelled and i got stung for 12 months internet i never had!
Or would i charged a penalty for leaving 17 days early?

Cheers.

I reckon the Bulldog side of it just means you have paid up to 18 August so even if BT actually get you across you won't get a Bulldog refund.

Which is fair enough as that is one month notice. It seems a bit odd though that you couldn't get BT to understand you had already given notice to Bulldog.

Are you keeping your number or will it be changed?

I think you will be able to order broadband on the BT line after 1 August, but it might be a good idea to wait a couple of days or so. If you have the same number as Bulldog then the BT database might not have it in at first, and if it is a new number it could have the details of length/speed for wherever it went to before.

Make sure you are being migrated to BT via Return to Donor and not with a new line. The former is free and the latter costs 125.

Hi thanks for replies.

That all makes sense. When i asked to be reconnected i told them i was with BT before hand, my number i had with bulldog was ported over from BT. I asked if there would be a charge and told i would not be charged for reconnection
