If you use your master screen name and password with the USB modem it should be able to connect independent of the AOL software.

AOL / TalkTalk are changing their systems over and the new configuration is different, using a [email protected] username format and specific password (though the call centre goons often change this to london or london1 rather than fixing the actual problem).

They seem to fail to communicate this to users effectively as I have had a number of "my AOL doesn't work anymore" calls.

If its USB, you create a dial-up connection over it, much like a dial up modem. Typically it will appear as an ISDN adaptor in your dial up connections and you can usually put anything in the "number" field, although sometimes you have to put 0,38 in there. Then you put your user name and password in the relevant boxes.
