BT replacing current phone cabling

We got a card through the post today saying some guy has done a survey of our telephone wiring and the telegraph pole. A 3rd party company on behalf of BT will be replacing the pole (part of an upgrade program) and if we wish our phone line to be replaced for free, to ring this number.

We're going to, may aswell. I had some problems on ADSL Max with poor line quality so this may solve it. Is this upgrade program a national thing then?

Openreach inspect poles regularly and if they are defective or the drop wires are too low then the pole maybe replaced, which generallyy means all the overhead spans have to be replaced also.

Just watch out for the termination and see if you can be in when they do it. If you aren't the new drop wire will be terminated on gell crimps (normally) under the eves. If you are in they will ususally run it to an accessible master socket in one run..

I hope you do better than we did - when BT's contractors drilled a new hole for a new pole in our road, they drilled through their own cable

How long downtime was there of your phoneline?

About 4 hours, but the cable only had about 50 pairs. They were putting a pole in to increase capacity - they wouldn't dig the road up to put in a new duct - too expensive.

Wish they'd do mine

Well they replaced the pole, but didnt change our phoneline. Said there was enough slack on the line to just use the spare cable already there
