Have you considered the time he stops playing the PS3 may coincide with a speed drop from your ISP, because it may be their busy period?
i can understand that as they both need internet and it gets halved..
That's not how it works.
If you have three devices sharing an internet connection, your available speed isn't divded by three.
Each device takes what it can get.
The PS3 doesn't use an awful lot of data for online gaming.
I think you need to provide us with more information (to prevent us from just guessing).....
Post your stats (available from the webpages built into your router).
We need to know;
Connection speed (up & down)
Line attenuation (up & down)
Noise margin, or SNR (up & down)
Also tell us which ISP you're with, and what package you're on.
