Speed Checker

[link to this post]

I live 3.6 km from my exchange. A year ago the checker stated i mat be able to get 1m speed, this went down to .5m a few months later. In December lightning strike hit a pole in my road blacking us out, an engineer called and it took two days to get the phones reconnected, whilst in my hone i was speaking to him about m poor speed (i have never been able to exceed .5m).

He informed me he had proofed a new line for m to the exchange and claimed that within a few days my speed should increase at least to 1m maybe 1.5. A few days later i did another bt wholesale line check and found that it reported y line as being VERY UNLIKELY to get broadband at all. I have remained at just below .5m but the checker constantly claims i either cannot get broadband or may be unlikely to get it.

Normally i wouldnt mind but i want to change service provider from AOL and the poor line checker is inhibiting me from signing up with someone else.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

With those stats, 63dB (which in reality is probably greater), SNR of 10dB and a current sync of say 528 kbps. A speed estimator, provided by MrSaffron, suggests you could sync at up to 587kbps which would be a minor improvement.

And to be honest, I don't think you will see very much improvement unless you can find a way to improve the SNR.

Why do those results stop you changing provider?
