How long for BRAS throttle to be updated?

[link to this post]

Now I have a stable internet connection, on Monday I carried out a series of tests on all my collection of routers. This told me which was broken etc. (I have 3 routers in use all the time, to give wireless coverage throughout the house - I have very thick stone walls) In the process there were very many resyncs.

As a result I have now been BRAS throttled at 500 instead of my normal 750, and I am still waiting for it to come back to normal.

I can see from the Routerstats log and graph that the last sync was at 16:11 on Monday, more than 3 full days ago. Since then the connection speed has been 960, without a single hiccup.

This is on BT Broadband.

When do you think the BRAS throttle will get updated? Is it only at night? Is there some way to kick start it?

When it's only a small step then it can be 'UP TO' 5 days frown

Why this is who knows - but it's a pain!
If I was a cynic I would say BT are trying to save some bandwidth at the expense of service...

it's to manage the load on the machines managing and implementing the changes. Longer delays for small changes allowed shorter delays for big ones.

It doesn't really save any bandwidth which comes in big fixed lumps.

Hi

The link below gives a very good description of the process.

Specifically the section on "~ What is "Adaptive Max Logic"?". There is plenty more info to get your teeth into

The 'machines' seem to manage the downwards changes fast enough tongue

Perhaps they should upgrade their 'machines' or do what the LLU people mange to do!

or do what the LLU people mange to do

run a monopoly system serving 20% of exchanges with TCP/IP connections at the DSLAM, rather than ATM tunnelling back to multiple ISPs ? Doesn't seem to fit with the regulatory climate smile

Why upgrade ? all cost no benefit, only a few would notice (50% don't even know what speed they're on).

I think you wong, I got nothing to back it up of course just gut instinct.

What do we know?

BT can do downward changes fast for every line connected.
21cn no longer uses atm after the dslam so the argument about it been there because BT use atm has become null and void the day it was confirmed it is still in place on 21cn.
The idea that BT cause so much inconveniance for users as well as bad publicity for themselves just so they dont have to spend a few thousand on upgrading/buying new servers doesnt sound logical at all.

There is an alternative motive for the delay in profile speed increases, I expect its related to keeping bandwidth costs down maybe even for the ipstream isps who may have requested the system stays in place.
