A Wimbledon effect?

Is anybody else experiencing much slower than usual download speeds this afternoon?

Is Wimbledom/ Andy Murray a likely explanation for my download speeds taking a nosedive?

No problems here via O2 LLU.

O2 LLU, no problem here either. Ping and throughput is fine.

About 30% slower than usual on a BT line (ADSL2).

The BBC sites are just about crawling along.

About 25% slower than usual.

OK up here, BBC Sport Live Tennis not bad on my 2Meg connection.

Yep - it's been affecting me on Freeola/Entanet.

Interesting how many of these keen Tennis fans seem to give up watching when it's home time though; as things improved after 5pm


I guess the tennis traffic is mostly the same it's just that the normal office traffic has reduced...

The BBC pages have been crawling for me most of today...

We've been using BBC sites quite heavily here without any abnormal problems except one tennis video I'm told.

Your theory is possible, but I would guess the majority of people would use a TV set?? On BBC HD it was excellent last Monday, unfortunately I wasn't able to watch tonight.

the wimbledon.org website is nice and quick at work and on BE

I watched murray late night match live on bbc website in the hd quality mode, as my sister wanted to go bed early (she kipping in my living room). No stuttering etc. was fine, I expect its a case of you need a quality isp.

The sound incidently was far superior on my pc as my tv is a bit crappy and my pc has a 5.1 speaker set with excellent bass. Picture was watchable but the fast moving ball looked a bit jerky due to frame rate.

Yes. My ping and speeds returned to normal at 5 pm. The women's Final later should be interesting. I'm hoping Miss Williams will win in two sets

LOL no issues here (UKonline LLU ADSL2+), infact sync rate has been a little higheer (about 100k) than it has the past few days LOL Must be another BT network bout of brain wind

Ah. That was my fault.

Not seen it this year but caused by people watching sports events on the Works computer and loading the internet down.

At 5pm they all go home and watch it on the TV.

Yup - ISP's who have networks that run close to congestion during daytime periods would see impact from the increased iPlayer traffic.

Those seeing no impact likely are on ISP's that have a peak period during the evening (i.e. home user ISP's as opposed to a business ISP)
