Re: FTTC Speeds

Not saying that at all, but that VDSL2 performs like ADSL2+ at 1.6km and beyond

Time to see how things work in practice

In reply to a post by yarwell:
downstream speed is "up to 40M" rate adaptive. Connection not available if likely speed below 15M, as I understand it. Upstream up to 2M, with 5M (and faster) to follow as options.

Downstream uncontended throughput of 20M or line rate if lower.

In the above document, what does CP mean please?

edit : found it. communications providers

Found it. It is less than 0.1km away. Should be good when it arrives.

if they dont provision vdsl2 they would provision adsl2+ from the cabinet instead
No way. Openreach are not doing that.

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

in that case to not provision vdsl2 below 15mbit because adsl2+ supposedbly performs the same at equal distance makes no sense. Because the distance wont be equal on adsl2+.

In reply to a post by MrSaffron:
They are probably on a cabinet that will not get FTTC anyway

Please can you explain this. It doesn't make sense to me.

Example. Suppose you have a cabinet 3KM from the exchange, and there are many users 3Km from the cabinet. Now if they get FTTC, they should get much better speed than now, having a 3Km line instead of a 6Km line. But if you are saying that they won't get FTTC at all because they are too far from the cabinet, then you seem to be saying that FTTC will not be used to give better service to areas with long lines?

It'll just be used to compete with Virgin, no-one else will get it. Simple really.

I was not saying that, I was giving a general warning that

If FTTC comes to an exchange there is no guarantee that all cabinets will get FTTC, e.g. one local council may refuse planning permission due to lack of space/safety or nimby style complaints

Also there may be cabinets serving so few customers it is un-economic, and guess which these are likely to be.
