Broadband working at new address

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I have recently moved house and at my old address I was using BT Broadband Option 1 and BT agreed to cancel the account on the 9th July (the date we moved house)

At my new address I have a BT phone line and I have ordered BT Broadband Option 1 again and I have received notification that this will be activated at midnight on 3rd August.

I have just plugged in my belkin wireless router and I have an instant internet connection, which I didn't expect. I haven't changed any of the settings and the broadband has not been transferred these are totally new phone and bb accounts.

Can someone explain this to me please?

Many thanks
johnny

Yep, the username and password on your modem will usually get you internet access regardless of the physical line it is connected to. It all depends on the security in place at the RADIUS server (on the ISPs side of the network). It just means that BT haven't fully shut down your old account yet.

eta: and obviously, your physical line has been switched on early, which often happens. BT can sometime to reconfigure your line remotely to enable the BB. It's the account setup on the radius that is often only activated on the day.

Thanks for your response, so I can continue to use it until our new account is activated with no problems etc.?

Well, I suppose BT won't look on it too fondly, but as far as I would be concerned, you paid for it so you should be allowed to use it. Just bare in mind it might stop working sooner rather than later.
