[link to this post]

Think you know broadband? Think again. By 2012, 10 million homes and businesses will have access to fibre based Super>fast broadband.
I think BT need to sort out the problems it has now before starting something else. Reminds me of me starting jobs around the house and not finnishing it and starting another job by the end of the month ive got unfinnished jobs all around the house.
BT get your house into order first

Give it a go, nothing lost !

BT - which bit?

Just because BT Total may not offer the best speeds does not mean all ISP's offer poor speeds at peak time.

If not peak speeds, what is the issue(s) then?

Don't expect BT to EVER sort out its problem, they don't have a longterm vision nor business strategy.

To MrSaffron: Yes, I know there are different sections within the BT Group, and Openreach is not the same as e.g. BT Wholesale or BT Retail. But to most users, and to Ofcom to a degree, these distinctions don't exist, they just see BT as a single dinosaur monster which doesn't belong to this modern 21st century.

The digital gap in the UK is widening every year, and BT is falling more and more behind current telecom standards. This problem won't go away until the Ofcom/BT entity gets completely replaced.

This is already happening in other countries, see e.g. Australia's NBN, bypassing Telstra (its BT-equivalent) altogether in the construction of a national FTTP broadband network.

I didn't see you asking for anyone's opinion. Just a rant for some reason.

So what were you complaining about if it wasn't speeds at peak times? You haven't said anything to give an opinion on yet. What "subject"?

One of the core ways for BT to sort out the current issues is an upgrade to fibre. In current FTTC guise it will shortned many lines therefore reducing the impact of the remaining copper. FTTP would improve it further but is also much more costly.
Some are lucky at the moment and get speeds that are more than enough for todays requirements - the problem is the unknown future and those many people who get "low" speeds (depending on how you define low of course).

So, saying BT should sort out the current problems is largely irrelevant when the way to sort it out is actually to upgrade the network.
