Annoying buzz on phone line

[link to this post]

Over the last couple of days my phone line has developed an annoying buzzing sound in the background when we make or receive calls,it seems worse in the morning and at nightThere has been no changes to my wiring or devices .
It's a normal BT line and I've tried the Quiet line test and all is OK, not even a crackle.I've applied warm hair with a hair dryer in case of damp.
Broadband seems normal.
Any ideas please ?

What happens if you remove all ADSL equipment from the connection, including any filters?

What Christmas lights have you or a near neighbour just turned on?

Thanks Roberto,
I have a BT faceplate filter with my router plugged directly into it and it makes no difference when I disconnect my router.
We haven't pt up any Christmas decs yet and I don't think my neighbour has either.
Could it be the BT line ? my wife has just told me that yesterday when we first noticed it there were other voices on the line and she could hear someone dialing, I don't want to call BT out in case it's internal and they make a charge.

If what your wife reports happens again then it is a pure voice fault, which may be intermittent.

So worth reporting by phoning in, although that can mean hanging on for over 15 minutes like I did a few days ago, as if you get a good guy like I did they run a line test immediately.

Fix the voice fault and the broadband will sort itself. Do not mention broadband problems when calling, as that gives them an excuse to tell you to contact your ISP, and it's nothing to do with your ISP. Unless your phone rental is paid to them.

hello DECCA

i have had the same problem this past 2months btopenreach have been out twice,
too lazy to find fault ( in and out in 5mins) and now its hampered my broadband frown
Disconnect everything and put fone and modem in master socket . Check for noise if
present remove modem check again. Change filters for a new one. If noise still there
call out bt dont let them charge you 125+vat .

goodluck

Thanks gb,
Broadband is OK, whizzing along ( well Virgin stile whizzing) It's just the voice line that's the problem.
I did have BT up to repair a dodgy multiplex outside my door a few years ago so it's possible it's playing up again, I thought it would have effected my BB first though.
Sounds more like interference somewhere.

Hi Decca,

I understand you've been experiencing an annoying buzzing sound in the background when you try to make and receive calls. Are you still having problems with this? If so you can drop me an email to [email protected] so that I can sort this out for you. Could you also include a link to this thread so that I can refer back to it?

Many thanks,

Robbie
