In search of ISP recommendations

[link to this post]

Hello!

I'm posting from Norwich (it may help narrow down the options) and looking for ISP recommendations.

I've sadly come to the end of my patience with ADSL24 (Entanet) after two nights of a dead connection from 7pm onwards due to what must be some routing issue at Entanet. Not hitting high end speeds I could put up with but two evenings of a broken connection is the last straw.

So can anyone out there recommend any good ADSL2+ providers who have decent support and service.. if such a thing exists in the UK.

And sorry to anyone who works for a reseller/adsl provider.. I'm sadly not interested in the sales pitches that occur here. I appreciate your service is wonderful and unlimited and never goes down etc etc, but I've sadly lost virtually all my faith in resellers. I'd much rather get recommendations from real end users.

Anyone able to help me out? smile

One requirement is I'd need a static IP and prefer a monthly contract. I'll hit the compare sites once my connection lets me use the web again but I'm still interested in real recommendations.

Thanks!

I would recommend Zen, I can't fault them.

One month contract & static IP

C&W through Xilo, or Virgin 50Meg if you can get cable.
Zen? What a joke smile

To be fair to ADSL24, it would appear my issue is being caused by a fault at the Peterborough exchange impacting all 21CN connections that route through it. So it's possibly a BT issue.

Still curious about other options however, but just wanted to clear that up. Don't want to point fingers when it's not their fault.

Quite, but LLU removes BT from the equation

Have to say in the past I have used Zen.

Then they became expensive for what they provide compared to the market. I moved to Sky , then to Be Unlimited and then to AAISP, then Vivaciti and finally to Xilo.

All these ,apart from AAISP, have been LLU. My dipped toe back into BT provided adsl showed why I left it behind in the first place. I would honestly say support provided by xilo is better than Zen provided to me 4 years ago and back then they were almost untouchable in that area.

So my advice would be C&W LLU via Xilo its how the net should be, fast reliable and un restricted, oh and its only £17 a month, on a one month contract.

Many of the "Compare" sites only seem to compare ISPs that sponsor the site in one way or another, or advertise nationally the most.

So the comparisons between them may be valid, but the range of ISPs compared very restricted.

The comparisons on the main site here are impartial in my opinion, but unfortunately exclude resellers, and some of those are very good. It's worth looking at the ratings here for the ones you see on the sites I describe.
