Netgear's Router Questions - BIG help needed please

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions to ask.

To start off:

In the past I have had interleaving turned off because of my very small line attenuation (Down) at 13dB. Now this caused my router to resync at a slower speed reguarly. I then got interleaving turned back on and it went back up to 7,616kbps. Now...

If I buy the DG834GT will I be able to get BT to turn off interleaving and set my own SNR by the override 'hack' on the router? And as a result would it stay connected at 8,128kbps without restarts affecting it?

Another option: Does the DG834GT come with S=1/2 so that if I get a hand on one, It will sync at a higher rate than the usual Homehub V2 because it uses the maximum attainable rate's difference for the overheads instead of the default cap of 7,616?

Thank you very much for your help guys smile

Is the DG834GT router the best router for getting the speed out of? And would it be the best one for a 13dB line?

Are you able to adjust the SNR with the DG834, Andrew? And what is the best verison to get? I hear there are 5 different versions of the DG834.

Numerous versions of both models

Best - the one that takes the custom firmware, its late and version number escapes me DGTeam is the firmware name I think

What may be terrible for Andrew may work a charm for you, much in the same way that you might like to wear a blue shirt and hate a pink one.

I use the DG834GT with the DGTeam firmware and it works great. The router's chipset is a broadcom similarly to the one found on the dslam at the exchange. I am on LLU.

My backup router is also broadcom based ST585v6.

IMO the best way to ascertain which router may be best for you is to firstly find out what chipset is in your dslam. Then you can get opinions from other users as to what works best taking into acount your distance from exchange is SNR & Att stats.

If you are not armed with this basic knowledge your question in my opinion has no depth, is without meaning and would be akin to buying a pair of trouser without having measurement for waist and lenth (if you see what I mean)

The 834 and 834G both have 5 models:- v1,v2,v3 are TI AR7 chipset and I think allow that S= whatever you quoted in another post, though I'm not sure.

The v4 is Broadcom based. The v5 is Conexant.

So far as I know the only real difference between the 834 and the 834G is the G has wireless.

The 834GT is Broadcom based as stated by the previous poster.
