and they could sell anything if they put an 'i' in the front and leak just enough information months before it is available.
I don't doubt that clever marketing has played a significant part in the success of several Apple products, but if they were even a tenth as bad as some like to make out then they would have died...

Really ? Read Stephen Fry's 'unbiased' review of the iPhone4 and then say that. Some people would buy dog poo, if you stick an Apple logo on it, and prefixed it with an 'i' laugh

From the link:
The two sides will never agree, the whole thing has become an ideological stand-off: the anti-Apple side has too much pride invested in their point of view to be able to unbend
Sound fellow, Stephen Fry.
while Apple lovers have too much money invested in their toys to back down.
I don't have an iPhone, fwiw.

Good points - Steve Jobs answer was less than professional IMO (Yes I have Macs and iPhones) but his answer is straight out of an old Tommy Cooper sketch at the Doctors.

Tommy : Doctor, my arm hurts when I do this .... (moves arm)

Doctor : Don't do it then ....

I doubt the Apple - haters would have been any less vociferous had the fault not been there (and I do call it a fault as thats what it is). they would have just found something inconsequential to complain about.

Well, (a) I'm not an Apple-hater, but I do know when I'm being conned, and (b) the HTC Desire out-sold the iPhone this year, so it's hardly the latest innovation any more. The HTC has two things that the iPhone does not - the Android OS, and Flash.
