Broadband Recommendation please

[link to this post]

My son is moving to a new house in Southampton with a number of other students. The Exchange they are connected to is STSOTON. Can you recommend a good broadband supplier.

1/ They will be there a full year
2/ Being students they will want sizeable/(uncapped?) download
3/ They wont want to pay much!

Appreciate compromises may need to be made, but wonder if you can point us in the right direction
Thanks

Andy

To me that's a no-brainer. Go with BE or O2. Have a look at the BE forum as there's usually some good advice there about which to go for (they are, essentially, the same company) and what discounts are currently available.

They will get an uncapped usage (there is a FU policy but no-one ever seems to fall foul of it) at a reasonable price (price depends upon what speed they want). Service is excellent and people are generally extremely satisfied with these providers (and they are available at STSOTON).

Agreed, except the last thing he will get in the Be forum is impartial advice about which to go for. They get very uptight there when O2 is mentioned - the two mainly mentioning it being MKD and myself.

The definitive guides are in fact MKD's comparison documents. OP - note the cashback side of things, which will probably increase nearer the end of the month.

If O2 Access is offered, due to the LLU being full, avoid that like the plague!

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk
My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - O2 Standard.

Yes. I should have said go to the BE and O2 forums. People are so passionately fond of their BE connections - with good reason - that they do get a little blinkered.

Just one point about BE that I realize that I should have mentioned. They do not provide email. In practice this just means that you need to use Googlemail or something similar. Many people would recommend doing this anyway at it saves a lot of trouble when changing ISP. If the lads are at all computer savvy they'll easily sort that out.

I don't think you can use the Be forum unless you are a customer.

I, and I believe RobertoS, was referring to the BE and O2 forums on this site, not the official forums at the respective ISPs.
