Keeping informed on downtime!

[link to this post]

Whenever there is a planned outage some ISPs seem to not bother about whether their customers know or not.

I'm with O2 and sometimes get a text or email to let me know, and I'm curious, do all ISPs do this, or do you just find that one day your broadband is off leaving you to spend ages checking everything on your system thinking it's you, only to find out later that it was a planned outage, only they didn't bother to tell anyone?

I usually get stuff from Be. But of course it is only if you are opted in to their marketing comms. And most work is undertaken during the night so how much do you put in to informing people when most won't even notice. I believe only the techy ISPs tend to inform their users but I could be wrong.

We do with all planned work and even unplanned work - although, if you can't access your email that sometimes isn't that helpful.

Twitter and Facebook are two other tools that we use for notifications. We are looking at adding SMS/email alerts in later as we already send customers SMS/email alerts for usage based notifications.
