All ISPs are male

[link to this post]

If you put the phone number of an LLU service into the BT speed tester, most of us know it will not run.

Just to check this is still the case I tried it today and got this error message:-

Performance Tester is unable to run the speed test for your telephone number:xxxxxxxxxxx. Please check that it is the correct telephone number for your service. Did you follow all the instructions given on the website, before initiating the speed test. If not, then please follow all the instructions carefully and try to run the test again. If you believe it is the correct number for your service and you have followed all the instructions then please ask your Service Provider whether you can use Performance Tester to test your Broadband speed. If yes, then ask him for the Service ID of your broadband connection and try again with this Service ID along with your Telephone Number. If this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

That's what I've been seeing
As not on BT, don't use it very often, but that was the message I got when I tried my number and my parents number last week

Hmm, really is a male dominated world this IT stuff, eh? Amazing stuff (or maybe it somehow knows who your ISP is and if you had a female ISP it would change the message - so maybe it is just O2/Be that are male and other ISPs may have a different gender).

Poor choice of grammar. The service provider should be referred to it, given it is a company, probably better to say something like:

Please ask one of your Service Providers support people whether you can use Performance Tester to test your Broadband speed. If yes, then ask him or her for the Service ID

The confusion over referring to objects as him or her is arguably a hang-over from Latin Im told Saxon(?) had a non-gender term that avoided these sorts of issues. So I blame the Romans! smile

I feel someone should ask "what did the Roman's ever do for us?". But it won't be me wink
