Retrain while migrate?

[link to this post]

Hi - If I were to migrate from one ISP to another - would the maxdsl retraining period reoccur?

Im on normal BT broadband, not LLU or 21CN...

THanks

We are all told it does, but all the evidence is that it doesn't. It does also depend on who you migrate to.

The only time it matters is if you have an incorrect setting now, and hope it will be corrected by a migration. In which case forget it. Nothing will change that you will notice.

The full story is that two things, the MTR and FTR may indeed be reset. If you are suffering from a lower speed than you used to have and are moving because of that, then that would be bad news.

So tell us why you are asking the question, the ISP you are with, and what exchange you are on, and we may be able to give a more helpful answer.

Have a read of my 10-day training page for a bit more detail.

Generally, no but it still can.

If you go from Max to Max, it'll not restart and likewise, Max Premium to Max Premium, but for changes from Max to Max Premium and vice-versa, a retrain is guaranteed.

Re: Retrain while migrate?

My router has PSU has been on the way out, and as a result resyncing all the time. My target SNR has gone from 6db to 15db and therefore my sync speed has reduced considerably.

Ive replaced the router and its now rock solid - however, this happened a few years back due to thunderstorms and took ages to reduce back to 6db.

So - I had been thinking of migrating to Zen so thought this might force my hand. However, it looks unlikely that this would cause the margin to reduce (like for like package)

I've just mailed my ISP (namesco) and asked them to reset the SNR Margin which apparently you can now do? (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=6046.0)

I hope i dont end up regretting that!

cheers

Sounds like the right thing to do first smile.

What exchange is it anyway and how much are you paying them. (Does it include line rental or is that on top?).
