Newly Installed Sky Broadband - Line Speed Slow

Hi,

I've just moved into a house and my sky broadband was activated today, now the router is showing it is synced at 4Mbit with the following line stats:

Now when I do speed tests I get the following:

This is currently plugged in my master socket with no extensions attached what so ever, the master socket is an old BT 68mm socket which is not compatible with the Iplate.

Now my questions are:
Is this likely to improve as it has literally just been installed today?
Would it be a good idea to replace the master socket with a new master socket such as a NTE5A?

I think I remember some posts in the last two or three weeks saying Sky have a strange DLM which starts you off slow and improves it over the next few days.

Sorry I haven't time to search for them at the moment, but they were to do with similar reports.

I reckon that line should approach 8Mbps connection speed.

Sky do start your line at a low speed,normally 4Mb(lower if your line cannot handle this) then DLM kicks in around day 2-3 and usually completes by day 10 giving you the best speed it can which are stable.

"Once your Sky Broadband has been activated, to test the performance of your line, we will start your Sky Broadband at a low speed on the first day. Over the first ten days we will try to increase your speeds and will then set your line to provide the best speeds supported with a reliable connection. During these first ten days you may notice some variations in speed and your connection may be intermittent at times � this is normal."

They also tell you this and your estimated speed when you sign up online, in the confirmation email and the welcome letter.

Ok, just checked stats again today and its looking good!

Any ideas?

Just rebooted my router and the sync went to 9Mbit:

I'm still only getting 2.4Mbit on speed tests tho, any ideas?

Wired or wireless?

If wireless try a speed test over the wire.
Also download some large files and look at the avg speed.

I was using wireless, just tried a test with cable and I get the following:




Hope the wireless on this router is [censored], I have a full signal @54Mbit


Edit:

With ethernet cable I get ~850KB/sec download

With wireless I get 350KB/sec download

Will have to wait until my gf gets in until I can test the wireless on another device

Tried changing the channel?

Re what BuckleZ says, if it is a Windows machine download InSSIDer and see what other wireless points are around. Then set a channel away from the strong ones.

OK, tried changing the wireless channel and tried my gf's laptop, both still get ~2.4Mbit, is there a hidden QoS feature on this router or something?! This is doing my head!
