Moving a broadband service from one line to another

A neighbour has two domestic lines into his home. He has BT broadband on one of them but wants to relinquish this line and move his broadband account to the other line (all his friends and contacts have his phone number for the line he wants to move the BB to).

Is this a feasible thing to do, or will he have to take out a new contract with BT?

Is he out of contract (minimum term) with BT Broadband at the moment?

It's certainly feasible. Should count as a house move to most ISPs. Some require a new contract term; some don't. Read your T&Cs for "house moves".

Though I suspect some ISP's will get confused when the address is the same...classic case of computer says no.

Thanks everyone - I think he'll just have to phone up and ask them. His contract is nowhere near being complete yet.

I'm doing quite a bit of work for him, trying to minimise costs all round.

As has been said, a house move with BT should handle it. I think it would mean restarting the minimum term. Check the T & Cs.

The easiest and safest way to do this is to retain the line with broadband service (and the number) and have the number everyone knows moved across as a second number. BT offers the service and Call Sign is used to discriminate by ring tone.

Or just arrange a re-number ... it can be done but there is potential for minor problems.
