Re: Baffling problem

I booked it by speaking with Customer Services. The first person said that they could not fit a new socket unless we ordered a new line. I lectured him for several minutes on the history of sockets and eventually he almost begged to put me through to his supervisor. This was an Indian call centre. The female supervisor was initially resistant but she suddenly changed her mind and announced that she was booking an engineer to come and fit the socket. She said the socket would be free.

The engineer said we would have to pay the standard charge for a "move" and that he wouldn't put anything down for all the extra work, which he was not really meant to do, i.e. the fault finding. So I don't know what the bill will be.

This has been discussed in the past...

I had a friend that was told by BT that having his Master Socket replaced with a modern type would be free.

The engineer came and fitted the socket - all went well.
Then on his next bill there was a charge for £234 !

After much arguing, he had to pay £10 to get a recording of his phone call from BT and then after more arguing finally managed to get the fee cancelled.

Follow the TBB link I gave earlier and read the whole thread - BT quote £195 for a move.
So keep an eye on your bill wink

As I mentioned earlier, in theory a new Master Socket should cost under £30 if it's not moved.

Mmm being charged for a master socket move is not good, that is a lot more than free and the £29 fee, more like £80 or more

As you were quoted free, a lot depends on what that free covered.

BT_Care:
"The price that was quoted of £195 was the price that we would charge if you were looking to get the socket replaced and moved to a different location."
http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/general/t/3766113-r...

But they did say £125 for a new Master which later changed to £29.38 (or free if you qualify) so it's hard to tell! tongue
