hi.is there any 10 day training on adsl 2.
the reason i ask is i was getting 2 meg on adsl 1, today ive been upgraded, the speed thoughput has now dropped to 800k.
the router stats are higher than on adsl 1 though,
the router stats are:
Modem Type: Built in modem - ADSL
DSL Line (Wire Pair): Line 1 (inner pair)
Current DSL Connection:
Down Up
Rate: 3367 kbs 747 kbs
Max Rate: 3367 kbs 748 kbs
Noise Margin: 6.2 dB 6.3 dB
Attenuation: 56.2 dB 35.2 dB
Output Power: 17.4 dBm 12.4 dBm
Protocol: G.DMT2 Annex A
Channel: Interleaved
thanks

Yes, but to say more we need to know which provider, as there are different training techniques.
e.g. Sky starts at 4095 and goes up if it can.
BT starts at the best the kit thinks it can manage, and decreases if unstable.
3367Kbps at 56dB, ADSL2 or ADSL2+ are not going to mean much of a change on top of an old ADSL based service. Upstream I guess has improved.
You are getting about average speed for that sync.
The fact you appear to have a 6dB target margin, tells us that unless your wiring in the home is slowing you down, then things cannot go any faster, no matter what training system is in place.

hi, this adsl 2 is with faclonnet, via a bt line
I have had problems with my line, and bt have been out here, they say this is no problem with the wiring or the line itself.
the noise margin goes higher in the evening, from 6 db to approx 12 db.
Im only getting 0.8 meg on adsl 2 where i was getting 2.5 meg on adsl 1, should i at least get that 2.5 meg again, upload has increased a little
thanks
just did another oboot of the router....stats are

Current Attenuation: 55.3 dB (Downstream) 35.1 dB (Upstream)

"0.8 meg on adsl 2 "
Oh no your not, the sync says 3.5Meg, so once the IP profile etc has been allowed for then speedtests should be around 2Meg.
Visit www.speedtester.bt.com to find out what your IP Profile is.
In the evenings one would expect the noise margin to be lower, not higher (suggests a daytime noise issue), is the sync speed exactly the same at night?

hello
Ive tried the speedtester all day,I get this error:
System Error Image not loaded
The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.
Yes 1000% certain, on the noise margin gets higher during the night, really weird that.
If i reboot the router at night the sync speed goes to 4.5 meg, but then when daylight comes i get a line drop and the sync speed decreases.

Time to look at wiring and electrical devices in the home, i.e. what is on during the day when speeds are slower than at night.
Perhaps you have an arc welder next door.
4.5Meg is healthy and very good for the attenuation.

hello.
thanks for your help.
The wiring has been checked, bt came here about 3 weeks ago, they found nothing wrong at all including my wiring, the router is connected directly to the master socket, with a dect phone connected, nothing else.
I've tried 3 routers and they all show the noise margin climbing over the day of the day.
I cant think of nothing in my home that isnt used a t night that is used during the day, so my gut feeling is this noise is being picked up from outside, its a ally line, my ip is trying to get me onto a cooper line.

just done a bt speed test, it tested it fine this time.
results:
Results Image not loaded
Test1 comprises of two tests
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
708 Kbps
0 Kbps 4000 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 708 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 1200-4000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3563 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 685 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 9.06:30.18:60.76 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
557 Kbps
0 Kbps 685 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 557 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 685 Kbps
do i have a stuck profile, or will it increase on its own after a few days, its been on that for weeks and weeks now, i use to get 3 meg throughput
thanks

Poor throughput for the IP Profile, but as tester is not really a speedtester, then time to look at the speed using sites like our own and others to do a speedtest every couple of hours.

hi, i have tried many speed tests all show the same kind of speed.
also tried downloading some files took a long time as well so i think this speed it says im getting is about right.
on the noise margin...................its now dark and the noise margin is already increasing
Current Noise Margin: 10.8 dB (Downstream) 5.0 dB (Upstream)
I have spoken to my isp many times on this, they say its down to me having a ally line

morning all.
still trying to find out why my noise margin drops during the day and rises at night time.
ive been reading on the net and ive seen it might be worth placing ferrites on the DC lead.
what are these and where can i buy them from.
thanks

Before spending money you need to see if switching off the kit makes any difference.
Also I would be buying http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/catalog/product_in... first, as they gives better noise resistance, assuming all the phone wiring you have is twisted pair, and you have isolated the ring wire already.
NOTE: If the ADSL modem is sharing a power strip with other devices, simply moving the PSU brick to another socket on its own may help. As can moving devices that use switched mode PSU's (e.g. the new small mobile phone chargers)

hi thanks for the reply MrSaffron
Ive moved my dect phone to another power output, also moved the router away from anything electrical, so ill see how that goes.
I know my phone line is ally, would that be the cause of this problem.
On the cable itself, that you posted the link too, i brought one of these sometime ago, but the bt bloke removed it, and used the one which came with the bt2700, he said to keep using that cable, as the one i brought wasn't as good as the one that came with the one with the bt 2700, i have to say i didn't agree with him, but should i switch back to the one i used before bt came out.

If the supplied cable is of a flatish nature then its pairs are not twisted, certainly all the ones I've destroyed to look at are not using twisted pair.
Twisted pair results in a round profile for cables.
The ADSLNation cable often makes no difference, but as noise is random if you suffer it, then every little bit might help.

thanks, i think the one im using is slightly rounded, but i might as well buy one, in any case, if it might help its worth a go, for the sale of a few quid.
thanks
