Just to compare a non-Plusnet one, My Broadband Ping.

The red block is because I did one of my infrequent switch-offs of the router last night.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk
My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - O2 Standard.

Another non-Plusnet graph (today):

My Broadband Ping

The significantly increased ping during the afternoon is typical for my line after a Bank Holiday (lots of businesses catching up I suspect), for a "normal" working day it's more like:

My Broadband Ping

They look extremely "clean" compared to mine. Hmmm.

For background, that's FTTC via IDNet through the Didcot (South Oxfordshire) exchange. It's always been fairly clean right from my first 2Mbps connection, right up to ADSL2+ and now VDSL.

I've seen graphs like yours from other IDNet users, so I suspect (but can't prove!) that most of it is down to lack of capacity in the part of the path that's within BT- exchange certainly, backhaul maybe.

here is a comparison for you.

This is from Xilo on a tiscali LLU tail.

Ultimately there will be at the very least yellow spikes when the connection is been used, even for web browsing, but when idle I would expect it to be fairly flat.

My Broadband Ping

Average latency looks fine to me, just looks like your using your upload bandwidth sporadically.
