That often leaves some folders which it is then safe to delete, but very often that isn't straight-forward either as there can be read-only or even hidden files and folders inside the main one.
Delete will ask you, when it finds these, if you want to delete them too or "Delete All".
Errrr, no?

Which "Delete" in which OpSys?

Sorry, should have particularised, but assumed.

The GUI Delete in all Windows, but not the CLI DELETE in DOS.

Right, memories are stirring. But very hazy as I gave up on using the Windows facility.

IIRC it asks you the question for every r/o file? And every r/o directory after its contents have gone? Or some such problem.

Also of course we are dealing with system and hidden files, not just simple r/o, though I agree seeing those is a simple change in Windows. But not for the vast majority of the users.

Or - I've forgotten something I found out, along the lines of what you say. frown frown

I know these days I've reverted to using the attrib command in the CLI and ploughing through stuff. Have I had a memory loss?

Do you mean you are on a diff. OS like Linux? No, I remember you still run XP and Win7 or Vista. You must just mean that you don't use the GUI Delete.

On encountering the 1st R/O or SYSTEM (Hidden doesn't matter) item, the GUI Delete asks if you are sure you want to delete it: Yes, Yes to All or No.

Yes, I'm also still using the CLI ATTRIB; I even use CLI COPY/XCOPY to do my Backups. Old DOS habits die hard smile
