How much is 21CN bandwidth charged at now?

I'm sure many of us have read Plusnet's post about how UK ISPs are charged by BT Wholesale for providing customers with broadband over IPStream:

However - the question is, how accurate is that pricing today? Is it the case that it's still some £100+ is required per Mbit of capacity?

Just curious, since I'm now seeing some of the Wholesale Fibre reselling ISPs (for EG: Daisy, Entanet) promise 8Mbit throughput, and I was wondering how they were able to do so..

It has not changed massively
under WBC it is around the £80 mark per Mbps.

Plenty of hosting companies that charge $1 per GB out there too.

not sure what you mean - promise a minimum of 8M throughput on what product / connection speed ?

WBC Contracted bandwidth is at £40 per month per Mbit/s

Take Zen offering... Oh, not a guarantee but just a best effort of at least 12mbit. Must have misread that... Oops!

The reason for my ask was to try and figure how realistic the offerings of the various companies selling fttc are.

I think the word your looking for is contention ratio, and because speeds are really dependant on time of day and usage levels, its impossible to make a generalization. One ISP could be faster at say 4pm, but slower later in the evening.

Zen also quote a "Monthly Download Usage" in GB. Taking the 100 GB / £38 option as an example 100 GB per month used in 4 peak hours per weekday night is 100 / 4*5*4 = 1.25 GB/hr or about 350 kbytes/s = 2.8 Mbits/s so the usage is probably a better guide to what they're anticipating.

True enough - but to have a vague idea of the ISP's contention ratio it's wise to know how much it'd cost them to add more capacity. At those prices per Mbit, it's important the ISP has a sustainable pricing policy.
