Primus broadband

[link to this post]

I'm interested in the Primus broadband/phone bundle offering of 4.99/momth + line rental, but I'm curious about their statement that no MAC is needed. I already have BB with another ISP (Madasafish) How does that work? My exchange is Dyce, Aberdeen

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

If it's for BB and line rental it could be full LLU, so no MAC required.

here's the deal......

http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/article.asp?id=exc...

I looked my exchange up on samknows, and they've only recently put in TalkTalk LLU. Not going anywhere near them, so just puzzled about Primus. I thought ISP's wouldn't put their kit in exchanges till they had plenty of potential customers for LLU?

Primus use the same equipment.

Talk Talk likely upgraded the exchange as they had enough users already on it via BT WLR/IPstream to make it worthwhile and save them (TT) a bit of money per connection that they convert whilst at the same time offering their users an increase in speed for very little/no extra monthly fee.

Primus will be buying a product from the wholesale arm of Carphone Warehouse called Opal.

Probably did similar in the days when Tiscali existed.

If no MAC needed then it is FULL LLU, and ties you into their broadband and phone very neatly. Always worth checking the exact costs of things like calls to mobiles, 0845, 0844, 0870 etc

OPAL which is part of carphone warehouse, aka same as TalkTalk.

Quality of Service may vary compared to TalkTalk, i.e. could be worse, could be better. Depends on what QoS Primus buy, same as the old Tiscali deals, pay peanuts and get peanuts.

Primus are a reseller I think, no kit required. £1/GB after the 10GB, 18 month contract, and ". For all non-inclusive calls to UK geographic, UK mobile and international destinations a call set up fee of 10.5p applies. "

The Broadband is effectively £8/month on top of their line rental & calls bundle.

Many thanks to all for your speedy contributions. It has been most enlightening.

I think I'll give them a call before the offer closes. I've been with Primus on the standalone basic phone line/calls deal, and have no complaints with their service on this so far.

One last question.....will LLU provide a more stable connection? I've been getting frequent disconnects for the last few months?

If on ADSL and moving to ADSL2+ then disconnections may get worse IF the reason for them is DSL disconnecting due to noise.

I'm also trying to find out what Primus is reselling.

The 40gb & 100gb looks like talk-talk wholesale opal. The T&C's say nothing about traffic management just basic download fup.

Not sure if Primus also use Dasiy Wholesale dependent on exchange ??

Anyone have any more info?
