A possible Watchdog story......

I got 30mb broadband from Virgin Media last week and during the day I can download at virtually maximum quoted.
However, during the evening I am only getting about 7mb download.
Reading on the VM Forum it seems that most people are throttled up to 75% of their quoted speed during the evening.
Has anyone else encountered this 75% throttling at night? Is it possibly being done to keep the 50mb customers happy? I am sure that Anne Robinson would love to get her teeth into this one if enough people had a complaint........

I may be wrong of course, but I would think Virgin throttle everyone equally

So I presume that anyone under 50mb will be throttled?

So if everyone took the 50mb package, what would happen then?

VM do throttle newsgroups and peer to peer on all packages between 5pm-midnight Monday to friday and 12midday to 12midnight on weekend.

Slow speeds can be down to a lot of things such as power levels on ur connection, problems that are known with the superhub. My advice would be to try every avenue such as getting ur power levels and so on checked first because if it does turn out not to be a throttling case and just something simple its gonna make u look foolish.

Don't believe the hype

the 75% throttle is usage based, so it affects only if you download too much.

Both 50mbit and 100mbit dont get this on downloads.

Hardly of interest to any consumer champions. It's normal prudent commercial practice across all ISPs to throttle those with exorbitant usage.

When you say "most people are throttled", you really mean most users who complain on a forum.
