Government discusses blocking copyright infringing websites

The Government is considering forcing internet service providers (ISPs) to block websites that make it possible for people to illegally share copyrighted material.

how about we stop censoring and the copyright holders adapt to modern times instead. It isnt really workable, will more then likely have false positives and probably be abused.

Not to mention sites like google aid in copyright infringement, so if that doesnt get blocked anyone who does get blocked has a case as to why google not been blocked.

Following that logic to its (farcical) conclusion, the Government should consider forcing ISPs to liquidate themselves because they make it possible for people to illegally share copyrighted material by providing internet access to users.

As an analogy:
Every supermarket should be closed down because they sell sharp knives that make it possible for people to commit murder.


The proposal in that article is ridiculous, technically unworkable, serves no practical purpose and raises all kinds of questions around who decides what sites to block..... given that the sites are just facilitators (at worst) and not infringing anything in themselves.

a few said when the IWF was started it would lead to eventually greater consorship and they are looking likely to be right now. Copyright been the next target and then after that will be other things.

...and for their next trick they'll stop spam and computer viruses by making them illegal.

Add the gov to that, since they make a profit from all these companies in various forms of taxation.

An even crazier idea. Supermarkets shouldn't be allowed to sell sharp knives to youngsters.
