Thanks for this. I am preparing to just this - find a piggy back and then do a deal. Unfortunately all my computing pals live in the same area and have the same problem.

Or even a trip to McDonalds. Their free wi-fi seems to work well.

OK Thanks for this. I would be quite prepared to try a dongle. I can't immediately send you the numbers you asked for - unfortunately the URL you sent me to has a big warning at the top saying "do this at your own risk" so take time to think.

I don't think the router is behaving badly, because all my pals have different equipment, but similar delivery speeds.

Could you not estimate the speeds I could expect from the post code ?

Yes although you don't have to ask a person for that info just use a checker ... http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

Going on just a post code will give a very inaccurate estimate, using your phone number will give a better estimate but an estimate never the less. The only way to know for sure is by having the stats from your router.

Go to The Cloud website and enter your postcode. It will list all the wifi hotspots near you and it costs £10 a month.
