Espaa Speedtest!

[link to this post]

Just out of interest, I ran a speedtest while staying in the Parador de Nerja about 70k east of Malaga on my Galaxy Tab using the hotel's wi-fi as it obviously was quite good.

I used the speedtest.net Android application and the results were as follows:
Down 8121kbps, Up 626kbps, Ping 141ms.

Any suggestions as to what the hotel's BB connection would have been? Better than I have at home wink

btw: The results I get on the Tab at home are more or less the same as on my XP PC.

ADSL or ADSL2+ probably - only a couple of meg above UK average

Yeap, I've had 832Kbps upstream for some time on standard ADSL.

Isn't the theoretical upstream on ADSL 1.3Mbps anyway, and the 832kbps a BT Wholesale cap? Any idea what it is set at in Spain?

The max on G.DMT ADSL depends on whose standard you follow - some sites are quoting ADSL2 as if it were ADSL to confuse matters.

General acceptance is 1Meg for ADSL

OK Thanks Andrew. No such luxury here though! There was a noticeable difference uploading photos compared to my mere 448.

Just found this info from last year:

Telefonica has only increased the upload speed of its ADSL services once in the last six years. Telefonica will increase the upload speed of their 6Mbit package from 320 Kbps to 640 Kbps and from 320 Kbps to 800 Kbps for 10Mbit customers.

Maybe the answer! - My mobile phone connected with Naranja wink

Two other possibilities on the 626kbps. One possible, one unlikely. The connection might be internally limited, or less likely, it might be a hardware limitation.

Why not?

G.DMT standard can go beyond 600k upstream

---
BT Infinity 8th July 2010
(NIBA)
600m (approx) to cabinet
25.5mbit down / 7.6mbit up

So why do I only get 448k upstream? Never been higher than that.

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 5,856
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 25.0 / 41.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 11.5

Because BT Wholesale made a product choice to only offer a maximum of 448Kbps on its standard product, premium for BT wholesale was 832Kbps
