Hi i have been trying in vain over the past few days to access a forum without success, the web site is TruckNetUK.Com things that i have tried are using the free proxy Hidemyass.com and the resource isup.me
both tracert and ping also fail can't find the host,
I have had a response from the person who manages the web forum, and tells me that the site is up & running but for reasons he so far hasn't found, there seems to be some network issues going on that affect many isp's here and overseas,
could it good old linx again? maybe we can find out by posting here if you can access it or not and who your isp is , thank you

Looks like a DNS issue.

I can't reach either of the above name servers.
www.truck.net responds but that doesn't use the above name servers.

Does on mine!

Can also trace the route here... the issue here is that I can't even resolve the IP address via DNS, so you're doing one better!
It's certainly reachable though:
Tracing route to li273-119.members.linode.com [178.79.154.119]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
[snip]
7 98 ms 79 ms 79 ms li273-119.members.linode.com [178.79.154.119]
Maybe there's been a change of DNS servers, and that change hasn't propagated yet..

Tracing route to trucknetuk.com [178.79.154.119]
I can't (via two ISPs and one hosted server) get any resolution to that IP.
Nor can I get www.trucknetuk.com to resolve.

Really weird. It pings and traces fine to the IP from here, the pings to the IP are in the 300s which is a bit high (3G here, but it's not that latent, other hops are 70ish).
That's on Three - it's just the DNS which is failing.
Am I seeing things, or are the primary and secondary DNS servers the same?
Domain servers in listed order:
A.NS.TRUCK.NET
B.NS.TRUCK.NET

D'oh - the A and B bits are part of the domain (Hangs head in shame)
So:
Name server 1 - a.ns.truck.net - is running, but doesn't resolve the domain name (timeout on query)
Name server 2 - b.ns.truck.net - isn't responding at all (times out all the time).
That might well explain why some can resolve the DNS and others can't.

Yes it loads for me using virgin media cable 10m connection ie8 etc. that site is a beta version, so maybe that's your hangup (sic), it was abit slow loading for me as weel mind.

Not loading on be* http ping or tracert, ,but if i use a vpn it's fine, could be a telefonica issue ,or indeed linx peering

Hi, thank's for the replies, it would seem after testing of several free dns servers that most apart from google dns won't for whatever the reason resolve the site,
open dns fails so does dns advantage and comodo dns amongst others ,
but that doesn't explain why it wasn't pingable before

Doesn't load on O2 LLU.
Same here.

Well for testing purposes i changed my dns to google and yeah the site loads, weird but maybe not it is Google, if open dns failed on that which is surprising, how many other sites won't load because of it's cache not working properly ?

It loads if I give google DNS priority over openDNS.

Well, it now loads. Temp down? I get the feeling they changed the hosting company so an IP address change that has just been propagating at leisure to all the various DNS servers.

DNS for that works fine on Three now - wasn't working earlier. Comes up immediately.
Host change would be my suspicion along with a too-long TTL on the A record before making the switch.
Or a switch of DNS servers and a problem there.
