Annex M sync and throughput estimates

[link to this post]

These are my line stats right now, I'm particularly interested in what the Annex M upload speed would be, what are your thoughts guys?

Connection Speed 18229 kbps 1142 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.5 db 10.1 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 7.7 db

Oh and BTW my broadband Sky is right now, if I lower the SNR I can get 19999 and 1150 sync, I swear they offer up to 1.2mbps upload, but they cap at that which I'm pretty sure is against the law.

I'd guesstimate 2.5Mbps on Annex M.

I think I read it somewhere, someone else had that upload sync, anyway that's just a side thing, the extra 50 kbps wouldn't really make that much difference TBH, and I'm to lazy to bother ringing up to get them to cap it at 1200 which I doubt they would do.

Thats what I was thinking also, hopefully the throughput will be at least 2mbps, fingers crossed. smile

If they capped the upstream sync @ 1200kbps then you would /should have a 1200 kbps sync , i read somewhere that sky's max upstream is 1.3mbps the fact that no one on sky appears to even achieve this,is odd to say the least,
if you moved to another llu supplier who offered Annex m you would see full upload sync and you wouldn't loose on the downstream, why sky you have DLM and a hideous 7-8db snrm both act as caps on your line

When I had talktalk I synced very close to 23500 down and 1019 up (fastpath)... but damn their throttling, I'm ordering to AAISP as soon as BT have switched my line back.

And if anyone was wondering when I would run a speedtest on speedtest.net I would get 20-21mbps with 0.86-0.87 upload. But I had to lower the SNR about 3db to get that sync.

I don't think anyone except Be offer Annex M, so is it resold Be you are ordering from AAISP? (I know they do it). If so, what's wrong with Be itself? It doesn't have any added on bits, but neither does it have the units system. It is simply unlimited.

BT based 21CN connections offer Annex M also, but it is £12 a month extra, plus a charge to remove the feature?! (BT just love milking the coppers out of people, don't they?)

Thanks smile. That's quite significant.

Looks like I was just plumb ignorant of its availability on WBC.
